I got one last month - second one in my life. I was 10 minutes from home, just starting a road trip and was not paying attention - wondering if I packed eveything. New 4 lane road and despite the fact that the road was completed, the limit was still lowered. Cop tagged me as he was driving the other direction and turned around. Walked up to the car and said "hey I know this car". We have a police program at the College where I work. Many of the local fuzz guys are grads or they come back on campus to teach.

It could have cost me $300 and demerit points but he gave me a break - $50, no points.

I behaved for the rest of the trip.

Oledoc2u - Holy Shnikes! The cop that pulled me over looked IDENTICAL to you! It wasn't you, was it?!?

Larry Hitze - I know of Atleast 2 'for sure' red crossfires (1) at the Tippecanoe Mall {it's there almost all of the time, parks in front of kohls, across the entrance from O'Charley's}, and (2)I passed one on 350 S by the fire dept. (while back)
On Friday, I saw one downtown-ish area, not sure if it was either one of those other two.
Were any of these possibly you?? lol
The one I saw on 350 has a vanity plate on the front, not sure what it was, though. I waved.

Everyone else - When the Sheriff pulled me over, he just asked me for my license and reg. and told me that he pulled me over for my speed. He came back 10ish minutes later (seemed like forever!) and handed me the ticket, told me to call the courthouse and ask about a deferral program. I called them today and they said call back in about 2 weeks b/c they don't have to ticket yet.

Here is the cool part, my niece (10 weeks old, born 1lb 12oz 12 weeks pre-mature) came home today, we were at the hospital yesterday checking on her. I just bought a $300 camera THAT night, my car payment is due on the 7th. This is where it gets better. Obviously driving faster, my mom is about 10 minutes behind me. I get pulled over turn off to another road but close to the highway; a little while later, I see her car go by. Literally no more than 20 seconds later I get a text
her: "Where are you?"
me: "I think you know."
her: "seriously?"
me: "sorry"
her: "how fast?"
me: "under 3 digits"
her: "how fast"
me: "86"
her: "you're grounded
I am disappointed"

Hah. yay.

So, looks like $600 in a week. Swell.

Some of your stories of other states scare the bejeebies outta me! In many parts of Florida (especially where I live), cops won't bother you unless you're at least 10 over (except for the obvious school zone or like place). I don't dare go under 5 over because the cops will ride your *** until you speed up or until they can pass you.

Here in the Carolinas, 15 over can get your license suspended for 30 days on a first offense. Cops typically won't bother you as long as your no more the 10 over the posted speed limit, school zones being the exception. Any form of speeding in a school zone is equivalent to a mortal sin! And I'm okay with that!

The best incident I ever encountered was a stop for speeding just south of Columbus, Ohio. Deputy sheriff said I was doing 69 in a 55 zone. Having seen my wife & 2 boys in the car (1987 Cougar XR7), he asked why I was in such a hurry. I responded that speed limits were essentially for those folks incapable of handling a car at higher speeds and that wasn't the case for me! He got a great laugh out of that, said they would talk about me at shift change that evening, and then wrote me a ticket! Never did come back on my NC license. To this day, I consider myself lucky!

And I'm in agreement with others regarding left lane drivers. The Europeans are more respectful of highway driving etiquette typically using the left lane only for passing. (Note: But even that trait is slowly diminishing.) But here in the States, the trucks have torn up the RH lane so much, that many folks use the LH lane just to keep from being "hammered" all the time. (Note: Really a complex issue of excessive traffic in RH lane, increased car density vs. original design specs, truck load carrying capabilities increasing over the years, along with insufficient funding for road maintenance. Trucks aren't the sole source of this problem.) I don't care if someone wants to drive in the LH lane. But be respectful of a car approaching from behind, move over to allow the pass, and then move back to continue on. Near the end of a month, law enforcement is not above pulling you over for passing on the RH side, which is considered unsafe driving practice in most states.

And it's going to get worse as States don't have funding to maintain the highway system and the trucks will eventually move over to the left on open roadways. I would! And here is SC, I think the state driving manual states that on a 4-lane divided highway, it's allowed to drive in either lane. So they have a right to be over there!

Here's a neat story that happened to my oldesst son back in NC.

He received a speeding ticket for doing 57 in a 35 zone. Serious issue, after all 22 over is SPEEDING, BIGTIME! Anyway, the day of his court appearance, he pleaded "guilty with an explanation" when called. He was told to remain until the complete case load was gone thru, after which he would be called to the podium for his explanation. When he was called, as he approached the podium, the Assist DA asked if he had an attorney. So my son responded by asking the ADA if he was implying that he could get his sentence reduced by paying one of the shysters, lined up along the front of the courtroom, $300-$400 and have them say exactly that same thing that he would. With that remark, the courtroom broke out into spontaneous applause from those defendants still in attendance. The ADA was embarassed and it showed in his face. But more importantly, the Judge was PO'd and it showed in his face! My son got the "book" thrown at him, heavy fine with court costs, and license suspended for 30 days. The TRUTH hurts! But he said it felt GREAT and was worth it.

I got a ticket in Sept. in Vigo county. My first one ever and I'm 45. I was going 60 in a 40. The sheriff said he would make it 45 in a 40 to save me money. Non deferred the ticket was $150. I chose deferred and it cost me $191.50. Just for 5MPH over... My wife laughed about the whole thing.

My only 2 speeding tickets were in the Crossfire both going 11 MPH over the limit on the highway. I was targeted out of a group of cars moving at the same speed and we were all stuck together in fast moving traffic (I would have gone faster if I could). He was the car in front of me and threw his lights on. I have done the same thing in my jeep and watched the cops hit me with the radar gun and they never pull me over. Never even got a ticket in my Camaro when I had it. The point... Crossfires are cop magnets. I don't know why.

I even got pulled over once in bumper to bumper traffic moving no more than 5MPH. I was in a merge lane and a Jaguar waved me in (going less than 5 MPH). I didn't bother with my blinker and waved a thank you. When traffic eased up the cop pulled me over later down the road. Had no idea why I was getting pulled over! He didn't give me a ticket.... I guess he just wanted to check out my car.

With some insurance carriers a ticket does not get you higher rates, an at fault accident will. In Maryland only a ticket for DUI, Drag racing on the street or reckless driving which does include some excessive speeding, will get you dropped. We don't underwrite for normal speeding tickets in any of the states I cover. You should check with your agent as rules and laws vary with company and state. Tickets do count in Maryland if you are shopping for a new policy. So a kid leaving his parents policy with tickets will pay dearly for those tickets.

Howard J - You from Lafayette? My red Crossfire is on 350 all of the time as it is a road I use all of the time. I live near McCutcheon H.S. My wife also works at the Mall and drives it there now and again. I have seen more Crossfires in town in the last month than I can remember. Silver roadster, yellow roadster, red coupe at Twin City Dodge, white coupe, and more. I have no vanity plate but I have a SRT Nose on a NA. What one are you driving?

Scooter got caught doing 57 in a 30. Played nice with the cop and he wrote me up for 10 over. Took probation for the ticket. Out the bond (price of the ticket) but no points on the license. I had a stern talk with the Scooter and told him to not speed when the police was around. This has worked for about 4 years now.

Got one in September in town in a known speed trap. He said 41 in a 25. That 1 mph is worth an additional $50 and 2 extra points. I told him I didn't believe I was going that fast, but wrote it up at the 41. Decided to go to court, cop called me off to the side before the Magistrate got there and wanted to talk. Asked if I would accept impeeding traffic, which has no record attached. Fine wound up being $90, so I saved $60, no speeding record, and no points, by going to court. Plus the cop was very nice at the courthouse, and a real jerk at the car.

Something odd here. Why would the cop do that? Why would he offer you a "deal" if he thought he did the right thing writing you in the first place?

I suspect he IS a KNOWN jerk around that courthouse.

Good for the kid.

My brother (the one in Michigan with a B.A. degree from WMU who lives on skid row in Kalamazoo because of all his drug and DUI arrests) explained it all to me. This was around 1990 or 1993.

"Got another DUI, gotta get Mom to loan me $2,000".

I asked why.

"Lawyer says that for $300 he will represent me. I will get 30 days in jail and a big fine, they will take my license. For $1000 he will represent me and I will get a fine and 30 days but keep my license. For $2000, it will all be over in ten minutes if I agree to go to DUI classes."

I may not have the dollar amounts and punishments exactly right after so many years, but you get the point.

My brother has had two more DUI's since then. The last one I KNOW about, resulted in a bad accident and a little girl spent a week in the hospital (she was in the other car).

Some legal system we have here. Maybe things are different in Kalamazoo these days?

Don't hate me 'cause of who my brother is. (And mom DID give him $1000).

I'm from Attica. I go to lafayette just about once a week though. My cousins go/went to McCutcheon. I see your XF at the mall all the time. One of my friends asked me if I was there one day because they thought it was mine. lol

I have only seen a few crossfires in laffy, blue srt6 convert, a black coupe going by Home Hospital on Wednesday, your red, and I assume another red.
I saw in the J&C that Twin City has a crossfire for sale as you mentioned, 12950.

Got my first ticket in 30 years this summer on a 2500+ kilometre trip to a family reunion in southern Alberta. Not far from the B.C. border the road is flat and it was a nice sunny day - I was just going with the flow. Cop coming the other way flicks on his lights and the wife says "look at that" just as he turns around to get me! First thing he asks me is how do you like the car - I told him I loved it. He was polite and I was smiling because the wife was laughing at me. He went back to his car and I could see him flipping through his book - came back and said I was doing 127 in a 100 zone (about 80 mph in a 60 zone ) It would have been 8 points and $300.plus fine, he said he gave me a break at 110 with 3 points plus a $78.00 fine and said he didn't think it would screw up my insurance. Can't complain with a reasonable cop!

Cool Re: Well Sh:t... I got a ticket.

Here in VA 80 mph is considered reckless driving and can result in a one year suspension and/or one year in jail and a $2500.00 fine...welcome to the Commonwealth.

well this has been a ducky month.

Pulled over the first time for 86/55 - $264.50
Pulled over 6 days later for 62/45 - $130
Pulled over Friday (18th), not in my car, however, didn't have a working speedometer so I was just keeping up with the car in front - 75/60 I got a warning since it was my brothers good friend.

Grr.

First of all, dont get me wrong, I am not bragging, just giving you younger guys some news you may, or may not use.
I am 71 yrs. old, and have always had a lead foot, but when I got my 2005 limited coup in August of this year, my foot gaind 200 lbs.
The same week I bought my xfire, I ordered my Cobra radar detector, which is in the car now, aside from watching for Michigans finest, under overpases and such, I never back my car out of the garage, without putting on the Cobra.

I should not say this, because fate has a way of catching up to you, but----- I drove professionally,(big trucks), for 35 years, and in my personal car, never got one speeding ticket, as long as I had my Cobra on.

"COBRA" Dont leave home with out it !!!
