Stereo / Audio gurus, Help please!
Hi guys, first of all, happy valentines day to all. Just another day for them to sucks us dry... Well.. I guess they are worth it
However, she did get mad when i gave two kicker subs as valentines gift to my car and got my lady nothing. Yep, I am not getting any today but oh well, my girl (xfire) sounds great, that is all matters now
Kicker subs and infinity references are in, the car sounds great finally. But one issue,
I pulled the kenwood KDC 138 out today and wanted to put the stock radio back in but this is what i saw
The connector doesnt fit the stock radio. It appears, they modified the stock cables to fit the stupid kenwood in. So what do I do now? I want the stock radio in there.

Thanks!

I had a feeling they modified the stock wires for the new radio... they always do. I figured putting the stock radio back in would be a beach! When I put my new stereo in I purposely bought a Blaupunkt because the wire harness was the same as our cars. That way I could just plug the stock radio back in.
If it were me I would keep the Kenwood. The stock radio sounds good but I would much rather have all the options a aftermarket radio offers. MP3 discs and aux input were the big bonus for me. I got the silver face radio to match my dash so the stereo didn't look out of place.
I can't help you on this one. There are other guys around here more able to help you. As for your woman... you should have known better
That is why I am always prepared. More so because I would hear about it for the rest of my life. She forgets the good things I do but the bad things are always locked away in the vault! And they do come out to haunt me!

When I installed my Alpine, there was a wire harness adapter supplied. I didn't have to cut into the XFire's harness at all. Can you chase the wire back and see if they cut off the original plug or did they use an adapter?

You need one of these.
BLAUPUNKT WIRE HARNESS - NEW !!!! - eBay (item 110494716224 end time Feb-21-10 10:41:08 PST)
You're gonna have to solder in the new one based on the pin locations and wiring diagram from the service manual and not what is written on the new harness because it may be close or even dead on but if it's not, you'll be redoing it so do it right the first time.
Good luck

Usually (when done correctly) they would have left the OEM harness that connects into the back of the stock radio and then bought the female version of the OEM harness and wired the harness from the aftermarket unit into female version of the OEM, then you can simply plug the female into the OEM and you are wired to a new aftermarket radio without tearing anything up. Unfortunately the previous owner simply cut out the OEM harness and hardwired the kenwood one directlty to the leads. Good luck with your endeavor, hope this helps.

Thanks a lot Rudy!
Good luck, it is not incredibly difficult, but will take some time and patience.
As Rudy said, you only want to do this once, so make sure you are correct before starting the soldering....
