Default Updates: v. 2010

Did a few small mods that will likely be the extent of the changes my car will undergo for 2010.

Here is how the car looked as it entered 2010 (lamin-X on all lenses):

Here's what I'm left with after cleaning the car up and adding some new things to the car:

I'm not sure I totally like the new grille. If/when chrysler ever gets back to producing grilles for our cars, I may buy one and have it painted black.

I agree not sure I like the changes to the grill, the standard looks much more in tune with the car??? just my opinion.

Sorry - looks like something is missing on the grill.

Does look really clean!

I agree on the grill, do not care for it at all. Take the grill off and tint the windows, then it will look great

It is not the grill that looks off, it is that you painted the wings IMO (and left the OEM badging).

Here is mine, although I just added lower grills as well (need to update pics I guess).

Your car looks very nice. To me, there should never be chrome of any sort on a modern sports car. It's certainly possible that if I cover up the chrysler logo on the badging things might look a little better. I must admit that I was surprised by exactly how intense the chrysler logo is now that it isn't offset by the chrome. I may have to consider some sort of stickers over the logo, like yours (do you know how I could get my hands on these?). But what I think really sets off the front of your car are the tinted headlights. I think your car would look even more sinister if you didn't have the chrome wings--IMO, of course. If chrysler was smart, they would have developed a special, smaller, variation of the badging just for the crossfire. IMO, the badging is more akin to what the front of a porsche--they just have a crest and it also has a good amount of gold in it.

What is the headlight output like on your car? The tint looks great, but I just couldn't get myself to do what I suspect would reduce the functional output of the lights. I've always been curious to know how people drive at night with tinted headlights.

Nope...still looks like a smile with no teeth.
Maybe it is just the pictures- maybe the black mesh shows up better in person.

I like the black wings, thats why I did it to my car too lol. The mesh looks better in person, too much detail is lost in the pictures. The chrome wings look out of place, and I never liked them anyway.

I have been finding that the appearance of the black mesh is really light dependent. The darker it is out, the better it looks, I have found. A painted stock grille might look best.

Contact H82BL8 (Bill) and see if he has any more emblems left, the black would look really good (it is what I have on the car now, not in that pic) they are not sitckers, but thick plastic of some sort, very durable.

My wings will be CF if everything turns out as it should, as will the hood. With the CF strakes I have now, along with the hood, front wings, and possible a CF SRT wing, it will all tie together. I photoshopped mine with black wings and did not like it, there was no line, just a wash of black.

As far as the headlights go, I think they look fantastic, but I screwed up with those. I went with 10K bulbs, and while I like the look through the tinted lenses, between the less output of 10K and even less through the tint, it is almost the same as OEM lights and lenses. I am going to replace the current HIDs with 4300 or 5K very soon, and then I will let you know. I think I will get quite a bit more out of them. There is def some light lost through the lenses, but not as horrible as some would have you believe.

That's not quite my style, but please post pics when your finished. I'd like to see how it turns out.

Now I get it, you have HIDs!

That car is in PA. No tint below 70% permitted here, which basically makes all aftermarket tint added illegal.

I like the tinted taillights, but they too are illegal here.

If you have a source for this, please share. From what I've read, you can tint your lights, but they need to emit a certain amount of light and be visible from a certain distance (20 ft?). My tails aren't completely blacked out--I could have gotten lens covers that we full on black. The ones I have are more like a dark gray.

I have a PA state inspection license. The most common way they ticket for that is you can't put anything on that blocks the lights or license plate.

I think you are possibly reading too much into the state code, which from what I have found, states the following: "Lamps shall be properly fastened; direct light properly; be of a color not contrary to Tables II—IV; and not be so obstructed by a screen, bar, auxiliary equipment or a device as to obscure, change the color of or obstruct beam. "

I would argue that obstructing a beam likely means that it doesn't meet the following, also taken from the PA code: "...under normal atmospheric conditions shall be capable of being seen and distinguished during nighttime operation at a distance of 500 feet. Stop lamps, turn signals and hazard warning lamps shall be visible at distance of 100 feet during normal sunlight."

I can virtually guarantee that my lights fit all of those requirements. The red, orange, and white (backup) lights still appear the same color as they always did. I can tell you that I've had quite a few close calls with cops in the last 2 months with regard to speeding and I was never pulled over. If I was that far out of spec, I have no doubt that someone would have pulled me over by now.

The law on this seems pretty open to interpretation.

I would imagine they would consider tint an "obstruction". You are correct though, it is up to the cop.

I have heard stories of troopers pulling people over on the turnpike and making them either take the tint off there, or having their cars towed. It all depends on who wants to read the law to the letter.

Luckily they took window tint out of the inspection process. Its not fun being on the receiving end of a trooper coming to see you because of an inspection issue.

I think it's more about interpreting shades of gray versus a black or white, legal or illegal type of thing. The guy who inspects my car never said a word about the tail light tinting. The tinting on the lights is so minor when you see it in person, I just have very little doubt that it would ever be a problem.

***now watch as I proceed to get a ticket on my way home this evening!***

Like I said, I'd like to do mine but am wary of it. Where did you get what you have?

I run around in my 68 Dodge with 4 inch exhaust through flowmaster race mufflers, and quick time pro's on the back and haven't been stopped. Luckily that car doesn't need inspected ever.

best (and one of the cheapest) mods you can do for this car. Another member was at my place a few weeks ago and I installed HIDs, I think he was pretty damn happy how they looked....

Yeah, my other car has a loud exhaust as well (probably not as loud as your Dodge however). Where I used to live, I always used to read about people getting pulled over for a loud exhaust. I guess I was lucky there as well. That and I made sure I lifted off the throttle whenever I even smelled a cop.

I used Lamin-X lens film that I ordered directly from them. They sell different levels of tint if you don't want it as dark as mine. There is a level of tint lighter than what I have on the back. You can also get clear film, which is what I have on the front headlights.
