15.8 coming off the cherahala skyway...I know I spelled that wrong...anyway, I coasted 7 miles at one point...no cell service, walkie talkie dead, and I was bringing up the rear...rolled into a little town, and like an oasis to a thirsty man, there was a brand new gas station...it will hold at least 15.8...when I got home, the first thing I did was get out the manual to see how close I was to running out....lol....well, I was on fumes.... When at the Dragon now, I fill up every chance I get....

I did the almost the same thing two summers ago with my grandson.... I passed up on a gas station when I was quite low and then couldnt find one... I had gone over 320 miles and was sweating bullets... found a station finally and it took about 15.6 gallons..... I wasnt quite at picky about price after that....

15.5 gallons for me, also. Just a few days ago! 394 miles, too. I wanted to go for 400, but also wanted to make it home...

I stopped at that same gas station on my way home, Exxon right? I wasn't sweating quite yet but I learned how to deal with the weight in the trunk issue in the mountains. Just run with an empty tank

I was coming home from "Home Depot" today with a brand new botttle of propane under the hatch. "Cringing" all the way home because it seemed like every car was tailgating me, and of course it was some young thing on a cell phone everytime.
Anyway, Just happened to glance down at my fuel gauge and HOLY SMOKES it's dead on empty. My steering wheel hides the warning light from me, so when I peeked around the steering wheel natually it was on. Fortunately, I was only a 1/4 mile away from a Shell Station.
My trip ometer read 385.4 miles, so $62.91 and 15.615gal. later I was on my way again. I think I might have been able to squeeze another 1/10 gallon in, but I didn't try.
I usually never go much lower than 1/2 a tank before stopping for fuel, but this last tank was mostly city driving and I just wasn't paying attention.
I sure hope I didn't cook my fuel pump.

I never go below 1/4 tank( if you can find 1/4 mark on our cars) any way i fill up as near to 1/4 as I can.

now i want to tell you what i do to protect my credit card at gas stations,, here are some of the figures from receipts that i have had in the last few months.

$ 23.23
44.44
51.51
66.66
12.12

what i am trying to say is ,what ever the dollars are i end the pump in the cents the same as the dollars

less than a year ago a gas station stole my card info and charged $77.00,, 101.56 and 79.00 to my card,, i called the card co, and told them i was disputing these charges,, then told them to look back the last few months and they would see all my gas purchases the cents will be the same as the dollars,, they investigated and i did not pay for someone else stealing my card info. of course they would not tell me what they found,, but two employes were replaced. jim now that's highjacking.lol.

Good idea Jim.
I think your method would be a great way to make a quick check of the credit card charges on your bill.
I always keep all my receipts, so when I lost my card (at a gas station) I noticed it was gone the very next day and called the card co.
I told them, the last time I used it was at 9:37 PM the night before. They told me $58.00 was spent at a Speedway gas station, (that just happened to be in a high crime area of Akron), $62.00, was spent at a liquor store, and I think they stocked up on cigarettes for a month or two, just can't remember how much they spent on them.
The lady I talked to at Discover couldn't have been more friendly, and understanding, we talked for at least 10 minutes. She laughed when I told her, "Well I don't drink and or smoke but I do use a lot of gas". She said I wasn't responsible for any of the charges made and they sent me a new card really quickly.
I'm going to try to remember your fill up technique the next time I'm at the pump. Thanks.

That's a great idea, if you can get the pump to shut off at the exact point you're looking for. Those numbers fly by pretty fast with gas being around $4.
