Default Door Pins

Please don't shoot me if this has been asked before. I did search and found nothing on it.

My drivers side door pin is flush with the opening when the door is unlocked. When it is locked it is down in the whole to where you cannot see it.

My passenger side door pin is flush when the door is locked and a quarter inch above when it is unlocked.

Is this normal, or is one of them wrong?

I have attached a link to a thread which shows the door pin without the door panel on. I think the black plastic part screws up and down, as you can replace them with polished metal caps.

Yeah, I knew it could be screwed off, but the problem is I can't reach it since it is only flush when unlocked. I really don't want to have to remove the whole door skin just to get at it.

I have not decided if I want to replace it yet with the chrome replacements or not. I would just like it to be above the door when it is open.

This happened to me. Try using needle nose pliers to grab the pin and turn counter- clock-wise. If you can't, take the pliers and do the same with the pin surround until it comes off. Then you can turn the pin until it comes up to the desired hight.

Thanks FP, I just tried that and it didn't work. The pin is too far down to grab. If I could get the surround off I think I could get it, but that just spins in circles. I looked down the hole, and it looks like the surround has peices that expand when it was inserted. It does not look screwed on to me. Strange.

Take the door panel off. See the sticky, just be careful doing it. I tried mine by hand and they are tight and I could not move it.

The door pin is just cosmetic anyway. You don't need it in the Crossfire. I would never push it down manually and I would never pull it up.... so to me I wouldn't even care if it wasn't in the right place.

You hit the nail on the head blackcrossfire07. It is cosmetic. I want it to look right.I have not used the door pins to lock or unlock a car since 1995. I am also thinking of changing the pins to the chrome pins with chrome surrounds.

Then, just put the surrounds out. That's what I did, and replaced the with, of course, CHROME pins and surrounds...

Probably what I am going to do FP. I did hear a rumor around here, on every thread, that you do indeed like chrome!

If the trim circle is just a push in type with expanding joints I would try to find some kind of tool that will fit right under it and between the panel, and try to pop it off to get more access to the pin and if you are going to replace them, then wait till you get the new ones and then if you break your OEM ones you have the new ones to replace them.
