Why did I choose this engine? Power potential, tons of aftermarket support, cost effective, light weight, familiarity, and it fits with very little modification. The only reason the 4G63T has gotten bad reliability reports is because of 7bolt Crank walk/thrust bearing failure, balance shaft belt failures which cause timing belt failure and skimping on timing belt replacement parts and having the hydraulic tensioner fail. I have eliminated the balance shafts, have all new oem timing parts, and 6 bolt motors generally don't have thrust bearing failures. I beat on my Talon for 3 years at almost double the factory boost with over 100k miles with only one mechanical issue before I gave it to my brother. The seals in the throttle body broke and started to leak.

Crank walk looks pretty cool to me

Awww! Those four little cylinders look kinda lonely in there Chuck. You should put 8 in instead!

LOL, seriously, that's a great motor. I had on in my first Eclipse. It was a blast. I can't wait to see how it goes with yours.

It is definitely a great motor...If I could choose any motor for a turbo swap, I would wonder about putting in a Supra engine. Single turbo monster. Though I guess those engines still go for a pretty penny.

I have now abandoned the Holset turbo. The only way I could get it to fit was with the compressor facing the firewall.

It's been a while since I posted anything on this. After trying several different turbos and manifolds I ended up going with an Evo 8 twin scroll turbo and manifold. If I can track down the last couple of parts I need I should be up and running in a couple of weeks.

Still working on this project when the weather cooperates with me. I have the drive shaft back in. M&S machine shop shortened and welded a Chevy 3R yoke to the original drive shaft. I'll have to trial and error balance it. I have my engine harness complete. Only things left to do is install the shifter, intercooler piping, and a few other accessories. I installed the SAFCII where the cup holder was and the LM-1 in the console.

My interior is in pretty rough shape. The gray coating is coming off in several places. I'm either going to find an interior paint to reapply or I might try to take all of the coating off and leave all the pieces black.

Here is another pic that is a couple weeks old. When photobucket fixes my account I'll add some more.

Don't have much to contribute, but I'm loving the updates so keep at them!

My roommates just finished a DSM (re)build so the 4G63 pictures are bringing a smile to my face. Will be sick to see this when it's done, and it looks like you're damn close now...

You could think about hydro-graphics for various interior pieces, depending on which pieces are bad and what state they're in. I think SRT SIX has a contact with very competitive rates (still pretty pricy though).

LOL, or transmission. If you haven't seen the news lately there was a huge devastating storm that raged across the southern states last week. I am one of the lucky few in Huntsville that has had my power restored this morning since it went out Wednesday. I did get quite a bit accomplished on the car since there was nothing else to do. I'll post some pics when I get some recharged batteries in the camera.

I need to make a shifter boot and finish my intake plumbing. Then I can finally crank it for the first time. I have a 3 foot straight piece of pipe ordered. Gauges are electroluminescent. There was plenty of room for the FMIC. I think I am going to mount the air filter and maf in the area behind the fog lights.

I also need to cut some small pieces of lexan to go on each side of the gauge cluster. Shift light is going on the left one and a couple of indicator LEDs are going on the right.

Glad to see you keeping this current. I was wondering how things were going. Gosh I enjoy engine swaps.
