For example, in California the speed limit on a general access road is to be within five mph of the 85th percentile of the plotted speeds of the traffic.
This is for a reason. Slower or faster, the most dangerous persons on the road are those that are not travelling with the flow of traffic. I'll bet that there are plenty of people who have been rear ended or rear ended others when the accumulated snowball effect of someone driving slower than traffic causes the traffic a mile behind to approach "zero" and hundreds of cars are thrown into a panic stop. This, however, is your world when you don't drive 72 with other traffic but 65 as posted on a busy freeway.
I also don't understand your purported corrollary between you getting hit by a speeding uninsured motorist and speeding in general. It is more of a non-sequiter. If I am "speeding" with traffic, there is simply no method through which I can be the effective cause of an accident due to that speeding.

Where I live in the UK - zero tollerance for anything over the limit - there is no 10% plus 5 mph and all that - simply zero.
My best friend and passenger in my car was brain damaged as a result of the speeder totalling us, they probably had the same idea, I am a better driver and speed isnt the issue - the sad fact was that the car he was driving was far more powerful than his own brain.
Common sense does prevail - and I am not advocating a nanny state (though in the Uk this is a palce where goats live) but speed does have a huge affect during any collision - and I didnt say not to speed - just if you do - expect to take the punishment. My friend will be paying a penalty for life, not just a one off ticket cost.
Hope my syntax is ok?

anyway, here's the scoop fellas...believe it or not, cops have personalities too....some can be ******, some can be nice....with that said....why, especially a lawyer, do you think you get pulled over?
I see from the posts, some condon enforcement, some think it is a waste of "their" time.
I even see we know how the speed limit is set up to begin with. Why 40 mph in this area rather 30 or 50....
My big personality factor was stop signs...no one in this little town I live in thinks stop means stop...so, should I just ignore it, after all it isn't hurting anyone...no one is there, so why stop? Why come to a complete stop, no one is around? Well, you all know the answer to this question, and you all know the answer to the speeding question as well. So, I quess in the end, you are just venting like I am....no one likes to deal with the reality you just committed an infraction, and got caught. If you walk, great cop, even though he wasted my time, and commented on my nice ride. If you get cited, then what an *****, the guy in front of me was going even faster, and he picks on the XF... It's the oldest argument on the books...but is still a fun read.
as I once had this little plague on my dash, I will repeat it again.....
SOMETIMES YOU GET THE BEAR, SOMETIMES THE BEAR GETS YOU !
I never feel bad or have any bad feelings towards the cop when I get a ticket. I figure I earn a ticket *every* time I'm on the road. I only get a ticket once ever few years. The ticket cost me around $150. The way I look at it, it cost me less than 25 cents per day to speed.
I've been lucky for the year so far I've had mine. There aren't many cops around here and the roads are all straight boring roads at 40-50mph.
Heck whenever I pass a cop I don't slam on the brakes to get down to the speed limit (I'm usually ~5mph over). I don't need the added attention of looking like I've got something to hide.

Once, in the pickup 3-4 years ago, I pulled over like that, he got within 200 feet of me, turned off his lights, kept going, even waved at me. I never caught up with him (again, I was in the 4 cyl Ranger). I guess since I was "compliant", he just didn't want to bother with me.
Oh, and I should point out, never been pulled over in the XF - had it a year and so far, never been "talked to".
So far.
i have yet to be pulled over in mine.... but sounds like most of you are speeding so therefore the cop has the right to pull you over. the reason why they pull you over instead of someone else is because......
1. its a sports car
2. its unique
3. cops think your rich with a car like that and decide you can afford a ticket lol

i'm not making fun of police officers. i respect what they do. i follow the law almost all the time when i drive. i have never been pulled over in my 4 years of driving. number 3 on my list was just a little joke to lighten the mood cause someone on her before got pulled over and the cop thought it was a porshe. at one time i even wanted to be a police officer. you have a lot of good police officers out there ( like yourself oledoc2u
) and you have your bad ones. no offense was meant.

As always Doc, well said,,BTW, based on the number of lucky Crossfire owners whose verbal warnings outnumber the ones with UTC's, it appears that driving a Crossfire lowers ones chance of receiving a ticket
Try looking at it that way VeGaslegal and your day will seem so much happier
