I heard many downfalls about Crossfire:

- Maintenance and repair work will cost a fortune!!!
- Reliability is POOR
- Parts and Tires are EXPENSIVE
- Poor handling
- It takes premium gas (Will cost a lot to run)
- Chrysler= ****
- Most of the car is a downgraded Mercedes
- 350Z, WRX, M3, Miata, s2000, mr2, RX8 --- Are all better cars!?!?

I would like to hear the HONEST truth from you owners out there. I love the look of the XFire, but after hearing all of that, I am thinking twice. I need to make up my mind soon, I need a daily cruiser car. I was thinking about getting a used 04-06 with less than 50K miles.

Thanks for the help in advance.
Well You make some very valid points. I have a friend who has had a 2003 350z 6-speed and currently has a 2005 Honda S2000. He has driven my 2005 crossfire 6-speed and will flat out say it is better of the three if he had to pick one to be his only vehicle. yes, the other too post better numbers but from the drivers seat not much is really lost from the driving experience, all three can put a smile on your face and you feel the most comfortable doing so in the crossfire. My only other experience with one of the vehicles you mention would be a 2009 BMW M3 sedan which a friends father owns. Simply put that bimmer is out of the crossfire's league and really is not even a fair comparison, at least that is what I come to grasp with after exceeding 170 MPH Across the mighty Mississippi on the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge. Oh forgot to mention that was from rear seat perspective of that 4 door saloon.

I heard Clarkson was mad because he wanted to film the segment in America but Chrysler wouldn't fly him out.. I don't know how true that is though.

A large group of fine people have put a lot of time and effort into this thread, all to help one person. I hope that you can include the benefit of joining this group to your column of numbers as you tally up the score.

The Crossfire is like many things in life - the more you learn about it, the more you can appreciate its value. Mechanically, dynamically, and aesthetically this car is an amazing piece of work. The more you learn about other fine automobiles, the more you will see that the Crossfire stands proudly among them.

I'm glad that you are taking the time to learn about the Crossfire. Now go out and find the right one for you, and meet us at the Dragon this fall to celebrate your good fortune!

Well, if you're debating between a Crossfire Coupe and a Crossfire Roadster, and you take Clarkson's reviews to heart (but you really shouldn't, Top Gear is much more about entertainment than car reviews) then make sure to check out the segment they did in Iceland comparing 3 roadsters: Crossfire, Nissan 350Z and Audi TT. When everything was said and done and Clarkson had to pick one, he went with the ............

wait for it...........

Crossfire.

But seriously, are you going to buy a car based on what a single reviewer said about it? Why not read all the other positive reviews online from a wide variety of sources. Like when Road & Track put a Crossfire SRT6 against a Porsche Boxster S and Nissan 350Z Nismo and picked the SRT6 as tops. And by a pretty good margin at that.

I watched the Iceland show last night. It was apples and oranges. Which means no SRT6 engaged the Audi and Nissan. It would have been unfair to do so. Gary

So, have you bought a crossfire yet? And, I have a question for you. Did you come to a Crossfire Forum website and expect to get negative answers about this car? We all love this car or we wouldn't be here. You are either with us or you are not. I wouldn't own any of the cars you mentioned. You have to spend some major dollars to keep up with these little beauties. We are running 6 yr old technology and still staying right alone side the new 2010 models out today. Best HP bang for the buck. Move up to the SRT6, and hang with any top performer out there. So, pony up, and buy the car. What are you waiting for? Next subject....lol

I almost bought a TT instead of a Crossfire 3 years ago actually. Now that I've seen the new TT's, I wouldn't pony up any money for the last gen. U-G-L-Y compared to these new ones, but I can't afford one right now. 3 years ago, it was used Audi TT or new Chrysler Crossfire. Since they are almost exactly the same performance-wise on paper, I went with the new, better-looking one.

I saw it this morning, Clarkson picked the the XF over the 350Z & the TT.....that was a good episode ....he was so impressed because the XF was only 27,000 pounds. I wonder how he would have rated the coupes had he been able to buy 2 brand new ones for a total of less than 27,000 pounds?

bragged too soon, one of mine just broke....lol....it comes with the territory. You run them hard and long enough, something will break...I would still buy another though....good luck on your purchase. I believe my problem is the crankshaft position sensor, which is an easy fix...

I strongly suggest you buy a new Honda Civic or an Accord -- along with an extended warranty and a pre-paid maintenance plan.....you can't go wrong.

Then join the Honda Car Forum.

The Crossfire is going to be way too much car for you.

haha....I'm the type of guy who does months of research before making the purchase. I want the best bang for the buck!

Ive been searching replacement parts... Is there any recommended web sites that sell crossfire parts relatively cheap? I searched on ebay for a tail light housing and they cost $250??

What sites offer the best prices?> Thanks

It's an expensive car with hard to get cosmetic parts. Mechanical and electrical not so much, since they still make them for the '03 gen SLK320. Headlights and taillights are especially going to be expensive. That's just the way it is until someone starts manufacturing parts.
