needs some quick help from the masters
I just had my steering wheel lock assembly changed out. Got the car back with a scratch on the plastic cover over the guages, no fuel gauge, and the ignition switch now sits in an unfamaliar location. I had the lock mechanism from last year, and told them to change it out first. just incase I orderded the lock cylinder, which could be returned last year no problem. and had it on stand by. I tried to have the service advisor check on returning the cylinder if not needed, lets wait and see if the steering wheel lock is the issue he says. so now I have paid for another 95 diag. to tell me I was right, 280 ish to replace the lock, and they have had the car for a total of three days. I really need some pics of how your key housing looks. mine seems to stick out vs. recessed a little, and the rubber surround is smashed at the top, with enough clearence on the bottom to almost fit a finger under it. They are trying to figure out what to do about the scratch which cannot be fixed. They have to come up with a new one. but don't want to have to replace the entire instrument cluster. I spent the extra money to have it fixed by a master technician, vs a local garage and this is what I get. Sorry just got back from the dealership and obviously not happy. Helpl anyone please. thanks, chris
oh yeah and a 280 dollar paper weight, but you guys have said that is not the problem with the sticky ignition fix. I figured they would have installed it if it could not have been returned. anyone around the springfield missouri area, that could compare how their ignition looks? sorry about the tone chris

Man I wish there was some way that I could help you. I'd be so pissed I'd be afraid of what I'd do if it was me. Geez and where did they say the gas gauge went?

That's exactly the first thought I had when I read this. Just that "WTF?!" moment in my mind. Why the hell would the fuel gauge be gone, where did it go, why is this thing scratched, and why is everything still broken?

Back when the dealerships fixed my ignition switch, they messed up my interior. At the time I was not aware of this common problem and neither were they (this was maybe 4 years ago). I got my car back and the interior paint around the ignition switch was all messed up along with my center console. My only guess is that they sat in my car with a cell phone attached to their belt. I also remember visiting my car in the dealership and seeing my whole interior in pieces. SO it doesn't shock me in the least that they didn't put your car back together correctly. I have been down this road with Chrylser dealerships MANY OF TIMES!
After the ignition fix, I wanted new panels but the dealership paid for a guy to come and paint my interior. They said if I wasn't happy with the work they would order me new panels. Turns out the guy did a fabulous job and it has held up over the years.
Bottom line.... when the dealership or a local shop touches the interior of our cars it will get messed up.... unless you work on the car yourself. You will spend a lifetime (like I did) bringing the car back in the shop having them fix the problems they caused. I could sit and tell you horror stories of what they did to my car but you wouldn't have enough time to read them all. My experience would make your jaw drop! So your experience and this thread doesn't shock me in the least.

attached picture.
You have to remove the bottom panel and loosen a bolt then adjust the position of the assembly and re-tighten the bolt.
Follow the pdf instructions to step 8 then you should be able to see the bolt.

ok the guage was still there, just buried on empty no low fuel light on, and I never let the gas get down close enough to even make the light come on

I recently picked up a new battery from Massey-Yardley in Plantation, FL. When I asked "Do you have a Crossfire-trained technician in house should I choose to ever get my car serviced here?" the parts woman told me only a Crossfire technician could touch my car.
I tried not to laugh.

I would and will definately take pics before and after any future service. Still two days later and they are still chasing their tails about the scratch. I am actually surprised they called. I guess some people don't understand that word of mouth advertising can be good or bad. I would almost let them pay me off if it would cover a tvt kit or something. I know msrp on a new guage cluster is 3000, and through moparpartsamerica is still over 2 grand. Just a thought. chris
