Cool Headlight condensation

Well, the only downfall I can find on my new coupe is the headlight condensation. Its been thru rain several times since I purchased it, however it only just showed up today. I have read and printed out the TSB (08-002-05) and will be scheduling an appt. @ the stealership.

My car is out of warranty, so I'm curious as to what others have paid to have this TSB performed. The sheet says it takes 0.2 hrs. but that is probably dealer-speak for 100 hrs.

The other part of me says to just live with it.

I know this subject has been discussed at length, but all of the other threads on this were buried and long dead.

Thanks

Check the back side of your headlamp assemblies. On each assembly there should be 2 rubber caps covering where your bulbs are and 2 "T" shaped rubber drainage grommets. If you're missing any of those items, that is most likely the culprit of the leak. Missing the top drainage grommet is a sure-fire way to get water in the headlamp assembly, I found that out firsthand once.

If you are missing any of the items, the TSB kit you can purchase at the dealership comes with new caps and a replacement plug for the top drainange grommet.

just called and ordered the kit. I went out and looked and everything that should be there is there, but the TSB will be permanent. (Hopefully) Never had to change a HL bulb in my past XF, so i was unfamiliar w/ the headlight assemblies. Pretty straightforward. Thanks

No problem, hopefully it fixes the issue for you. If after the TSB you still are having moisture problems, then you might have a bad seal where the lens attaches to the assembly housing. But one problem at a time, lets see if this works first.

I'm pretty confident in the TSB. I mean, what are the chances that BOTH lenses are attached poorly...But as you said one step at a time.

The kit comes with enough plugs to do both headlights, so you should be all set!

I have the original covers and plugs on my car, an '04, and I have never had this problem.
I think the joint between the lens and the housing body sometimes leaks.
I also maintain that with DTRL's the temperature inside would deter any moisture from the atmosphere from building up.
Other people have said that the kit to fix this problem did not do anything, so good luck on your problem.
Dry out the lights before you put on the kit or you will be sealing moisture inside.

My 97 dodge truck did this same thing this spring. I must have dried it out 5 times by removing the whole thing and putting it in the sun. I finally took some clear silicone sealer and with the headlight off the truck carfully ran a small bead on the joint between the clear lens and the black housing. Let it dry and reassemble. It has been about 4 months and no moisture has reappeared yet. With any luck it's a pemanent fix.

yeah, i'll have to wait and see. if the kit doesnt work, i wont be too upset. 95% of the condensation has already disappeared since it stopped raining 2 hrs. ago. But I still dont like it!
