mine does the same...and i have 18,000 miles on it. it is the converters emitting the odor. as mentioned above...this only happens when i get on it for a few hard accelerations.

Its the cats. Mine is still doing it after 12,000 miles. Took it to a muffler shop and they suggested taking the cat out and putting it in an oven to bake it. I will probably have the dealer look at it on my next visit. I got my car in Aug 2003 but don't drive it much. I have tried different gas companies 93 oct with no results.

I have never herd of this happening before. I can tell you that mine has never done it but I got mine with 30,000 miles on it. I have heard of cats breaking up on new cars and it can really mess up the car. If you start to feel less power take it in.

So your cat is stuck in your exhaust pipe? I would think that would smell worse than a simple fart smell. A couple of points for you. You must have a really small cat for it to crawl up in that opening. If you place a can of cat food outside your exhaust you just might get that critter out of there. Just don't run over it when you back out. Rotten cat food doesn't smell too good either. Don't park your car near any PETA rallies. They may think you are being unusually cruel to animals (I mean lets get real here who stuffs a cat up their exhaust pipe anyway?) I'd hate to see them graffiti up your XFire with cruelty to animals stickers.
Maybe the cat is farting because its so hot in there? I guess there are a million reasons for this smell but all the other posters here are wrong. I think you have to seriously consider my explanations and go with my fix.
Good luck!

Pat

You would think that the car would be purring differently if there was a cat in the exhaust! Has your car been purring differently? Maybe purring while it's turned off? If so you definitely have a cat stuck in the exhaust and I would have to agree about placing a can of cat food to get the cat out. Also please take pictures of the cat when it comes out I would like to see this!

I have noticed this smell before and with all four of my cars. In pretty much all cases, the smell is encountered when reaching the top of a long hill on the interstate. I do think the smell does not come from my cars but rather from other cars' exhaust.

That long climb heats the cats and burns off the accumulated gunk in there. The reason I say it does not come from my cars is that it even happens on two of my cars which do not have catalytic converters. It is especially noticeable in my Cobra which is a convertible where you are all out there in the air (and exhaust).

I never noticed anything like a sulphur smell in the uk but we have to use low sulphur fuels.

Mine smells too. I was thinking the filter for the air conditioner was going bad, but i'm going to try the cat food this morning and see if that helps.
