Default Insurance for Highly modified/V8 Crossfires

I was at large indoor car show over the weekend and Grundy had a booth there. I have been worried about my insurance ever since I put a V8 in my car. If my car was totaled how much would the insurance company pay? Would they pay me enogh to get a similar car and put a V8 in it? I doubt it. I explained my concerns to the rep from Grundy and he offered me a deal that seemed to good to be true. For about 25% percent of what I pay now he could give me an agreed value policy with better coverage than I have now. I am still looking into this but it may be a good option for those that have invested way more than typical insurance will cover.

I got an agreed value policy from Hagerty for my SRT6 vert, for less money than insuring it through my auto policy.
Only problem is that you need a 'daily driver', and there are some mileage restrictions

I recently bought another car and since I work from home the Crossfire is averaging one tank of gas per month. The guy from Grundy told me I would not have a mileage restriction so I can still drive it to the Dragon. He said I could drive for pleasure all I want but using it to get groceries would be out. I don't use it for that so I should be good. I doubt any of the V8 Crossfires are daily drivers but mine was until recently.

No mileage restriction on Hagerty policy I have. The car must be an extra. That means 1 more car than drivers in household. And your car must be garaged on your residence. My insurance thru Hagerty is half the cost of my regular company and with way better coverage. Plus I have the roadside assistance included.

I told my insurance about the swap. All they asked "Is you car worth under $40,000". I said yes. So there is nothing to change or be concerned about because I am insured up to that amount.

This is in Canadian Dollars and remember they cost more up here so the "book values" are higher than they should be

I just got my XF last week, and put a full coverage insurance policy on it through the same people I insure my motorcycle with (Progressive). The premium sounds about right, and they are offering me a program called “snapshot” where you connect a device to the car that tracks your driving habits such as how often, start/stop tendencies, speed, etc. They say that I can save up to 30% on my premium if my stats come back as a low risk driver.

I’ve signed up with the program, but am by no means obligated to participate. I’ve not heard of Hagerty’s down here in San Antonio.

I have issues with Progressive's snapshot discount. What they don't tell you is they can raise your rate if they deem you an unsafe driver (which I'm not), but they have their own stipulations for what makes a safe/unsafe driver. I know you only have to keep it on the car for a short period of time, but it all just seems a bit hinky to me.

I'll stick with Geico, which has provided the best coverage and best rate over the years.

Hagerty is nationwide, but only insures certain classes of vehicle, eg antique or classic. The difference is , on an agreed value policy, they will pay you a predetermined amount, unlike most insurance companies, who will give you 'blue' or 'black' book value if it is declared a total loss. If my convertible, which has only 7500 mls was written off, I would probably only get $13-14k for it from Geico etc, which would not be enough to replace it, however with Hagerty, I get a value which we agreed on prior to the insurance coverage being taken out. Of course there are some restrictions, but at least if the worst happens, I get enough money to find another low mileage one.
You may think I'm paranoid about a total loss, but with the scarecity of parts, it doesn't take much to total a crossfire

If you are paranoid, then I am very paranoid. I don't want to argue with an insurance company about the value of a V8 Crossfire. I am sure my present insurer will give me no where near the cost of another V8 Crossfire. I am going with Hagerty. Besides already knowing exactly what they will pay for a total loss, the rest of the insurance is better as well. They quoted me $380 per year which is a fraction of what I pay now. Hagerty knows that the cars they insure are our babies and well taken care off and pampered.

I was with GEICO for decades figuring they'd be lowest. But I just reshoped all my policies, and GEICO, surprisingly, couldn't even get close to several other major insurers' quotes. I was quite surprised, and switched.

If you also have homeowners insurance, you normally get a discount by having (all?) your cars insured with the same company. Any experiences with using Hagerty, etc. for your one special car, but still getting the discount for having your homeowners and daily-driver autos with a major insurer?

I have Infinity on my SRT, there is mileage restrictions but they would cover a decent amount of my upgrades.

My rates are high enough.
This would kill me!
No discount for my driving!

You know, years ago I heard a guy that retired from the auto/home insurance business say to someone else: If you are with an auto insurance company for more than 5 years, you are paying too much...

Just something I will always remember but never really researched. It does seem everytime you shop around, someone is willing to give you a better deal to win you over.

Driving record is clean.
Was just saying that if they recorded my driving habits they would wonder why the video showed autocrossing, drag racing and high speed runs instead of someone just driving to work and back!

I'll take my (almost) full coverage for $150 a month from USAA. At 22 this is less than half of what the next cheapest company had.

Well ... gettin' old, and married, has a few advantages. Less than $27/mo. for full coverage!

Hey Lantana!

Been a while since I've been on here, and I'm just now -finally- getting my car to Rudy (had a ton of issues getting the tags replaced since no one back home has power of attorney, and I'm in Iraq). I was thinking about this with USAA, and they said that so long as I gave them the information and receipts from the work, that they'd cover it for me. Haven't looked into Hagerty or anything, but I plan on using my V8 XFire as a daily driver.. Do they put mileage limits on your car?

It can't be your daily driver, and you need to own another vehicle, to prove it isn't your daily driver. At least, that is why they ask I suppose. If you own another vehicle, I wouldn't tell them the XF is your daily driver, and there are mileage limitations...
