Default Injector Cleaner

Any preferences on Lucas vs. Techron?

Never used Lucas. I have used Techron since my Saturn was new in '92. I run a bottle through the Crossfire once a year when I fill up for a big trip, like CAA coming up.

I had some minor issues with my Saturn and the dealer showed me a letter that recommended Techron, twice a year, at twice the rate the bottle showed. One bottle with a half tank (7 gal), instead of full tank (12-14gal).

I have always used Techron in all my fuel injected engines BUT I just recently put in Lucas in one of the Xfires I put up for storage this summer. I run it in the sytem before I store them. I also use Seafoam in all my British Leyland cars. By the way, Lucas, Seafoam and Techron were the same price at Wal Mart. I use Seafoam in the cars that do not have a injector system. Once a year just before their winter oil change and storage I run some Seafoam in the oil before it gets changed in all my old cars. It also works like a dry gas and fuel stabilizer for winter storage. However, I add Stabilizer to all my stored cars' gas.

Some people will say the additives are in the gas and you are wating your money but for the price it costs twice a year it works for me. Knock wood I have had NO problems with injectors.

I also use Techron, twice a year at a minimum, and have not had any problems at all. My preferred fuel is Chevron which also contains Techron, but if I'm on a trip, any top tier fuel will do if Chevron is not available.

I know that Techron was recommemded by BMW dealrs a few years back and was part of their maintenance program...don't know if they do it anymore. I had a '90 Turbo Dodge Spirit for 20 years and 180,000+ miles. Put in Techron once a year and before long trips just like the other poster. At around 120,000 miles I had a leaky injector, so I sent all of them in for rebuilding. The rebuilding report that came back said that the leaky injector was junk, but that the 3 good injectors were performing like new with beautiful spray patterns. It's either Techron or the Shell gas that I use that does the trick. I will continue to use Techron in my new (2004) Crossfire.

Smile Re: Injector Cleaner & Tuneup

Hello everyone!

How often should you get a tuneup? I'm only getting 17 miles to the gallon on a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. And should you clean your fuel injectors every time you get an oil change?

Thanks so much,

Cheryl

Look at your owners manual. It gives the maintenance schedule. Follow that and your good to go. However having said that our cars are 10+ years old and even if you haven't reached a hundred thousand miles it would be a good idea to change the plugs and wires, run a strong Techron Complete Fuel additive through your system after installing a new fuel filter. Do the Techron Complete a couple times a year. Be sure the oil filter gets changed (use the recommended fleece filter) NOT a paper filter with each oil change and the air intake filters under the hood. When was the last cabin air filter change? 17 mpg is a little low, but depends a lot on how you drive. I can easily get 28 when driving the freeways on long trips, but city driving pulls that way down. "tuneups" per say are obsolete. Follow the maintenance schedule. Good idea to get an "oil catch can" installed if you haven't one. Needswings sells a good one. easy to install and helps to keep your intake clean.

Hi Cheryl,
How many miles on your XFire ?
What octane fuel do you use?
Should be better than that.
I use Lucas cleaner, upper cylinder lubricant every other fuel fill up, I havery a few of the small injector cleaners containers I fill up from a gallon jug.
do you know if plugs have ever been changed, if so do you know which brand / kind of spark plug?
A induction cleaning helps also.

If gets to the point it is running rich, can mess with o2 sensors, and start plugging up cats.

Any info you can provide will help

I have seen 33, IF I set the cruise at 55 on non-interstate roads of course.
I quite often visit my sister 100 miles away, no interstate, just 2 lane state roads.

I believe it.
But mine is with cruise set 74-76 mph for hours every week, I am happy with over 25 mpg.
Been awhile ago when I got 31 mpg
Forgot who it was, didn't somebody last year deactivate rear wing and get 2 mpg more on interstate?
