Default Hello...I would like to buy a Crossfire but...

...I'm worrying about parts availability and maintenance. I'm interested in buying a used Crossfire with low mileage...50000km in automatic or standard(I need to learn to do stick shift ASAP). Is the Crossfire a reliable car ?

In what country are you looking? The fact that you stated km instead of mi makes me think you are located outside of U.S. To answer your question, the platform is one of the most reliable in MB history. It does have a few quirks, parts are getting a little harder to find, and taking it to a dealership for service will be very costly. They have a cult following, and pretty much any question you can think of, someone on this forum can answer.

My suggestion would be to test drive a base, limited, and an SRT-6, if possible. Not much difference in the first two, aside from seats and color choice. The latter comes with an awesome bonus feature: PERMAGRIN. A disease I don't need the cure for............

Question Re: Hello...I would like to buy a Crossfire but...

Thanks for the reply.
I'm from Ontario, Canada. I'm interested in getting a Summer only car. I recently look at the Honda s2000, Nissan 350z, BMW z4, MB SLK350 and finally settle down on the sexy xfire. I like it in RED or White. It is glad to hear that it is a reliable car.

The SRT-6 is quite rare in my area but I love the fact that it has more HP.

I have a question. What should I look for when I'm buying a used xfire ? Any tips are welcome.

If you want an srt6 I would say buy it from the US and import it and save a ton of money.
One thing to look for is to see it the car was in an accident. Other than that it is just minor do it your self stuff that is usually broken or need a little touch up. My car had 180,000KM on the original drivetrain and it was still running strong when it was taken out of the car. I drove it to Wisconsin from Niagara Falls, Ontario for its last journy problem free.

The srt6 comes in color blk ,aero pearl blue, silver and grey . Only build year2005 . 2016 coupes and 944 verts. The silver appears to be the rarest, then the grey, blue and black Ops there were a few 2006 srt maybe 10 to 15

I have my 2004 crossfire as my daily driver car. I has been driven in two big snow storms, and now a hurricane without any problem. recently my wife got a new job closer to mine, so we carpool. we have two cars and now the crossfire only gets driven two weeks out of the month. prior to that I drove my car every workday and most weekends, to take care of chores and go to car shows. i have had no problem with the car. this site is full of information about repairs and maintenance.

The car has the 3.2L Benz engine that was made for YEARS and is in many different cars that they make---Mechanical parts no problem---some body parts must be searched but can be done with a little work. This car will go well over 200k miles---MB does not have a Million Mile Club for nothing. I have had 7 different cars (I was a dealer) and all were great---It will beat everything that you have looked at so far---Good luck and just do it!!!

Thanks for all the inputs.
The Xfire is it. I'm going ahead with it.

What do you experts think regarding the best color of the xfire ?

Where should I looking for rust in this car ?

Here is a xfire with a pair of round exhaust. Very handsome ! What is the price to install the round exhaust pieces ?

best color..........Blaze Red

Rust.....bottoms of the doors would be the common area, of course after you check the usual places for all cars.

There's a good history to the car that you have pictured- I believe that it belonged to a former forum member that had a few minor problems & got frustrated with it. All the fixes seemed to be posted but he never looked them up - it was a shame. But don't pay too much for this one - other members were talking about going in & offering $8K to see where that would go.
I am associated with an independent dealer in the Ottawa area, and maybe can help out with some pricing questions that you may have. If you pm me, I can see if anything has gone through the auctions recently, and what they may have gone for. The idea of going to the states is a good one, though. Their pricing and availability has been better than ours - I bought our roadster there last summer & it was by far the best deal I could find. Bringing the car through customs was a breeze.
The exhaust pictured is probably Magnaflow - someone else can verify that. But it will be readily available, I'm sure. I have had a factory exhaust system on order since June due to accident damage, and have been advised that it won't be in until October. Some parts are getting hard to find, but you will be able to make do.

The Crossfire is no different then any other car when giving it a look over. Look to see if any icons are lit on the instrument panel other then the obvious park brake, seatbelt warnings. For example, do they all light up when the ignition is turned on (indicating all bulbs are working) and do they all go off when started. Turn everything on electrical and confirm in working condition (do the seats heat?, do the mirrors heat? A/C working? etc.). CD all radio functions, fan controls and toggle switches working as should? Engine purring with little to no "noises" when at idle? Rev it up and look for smoke at the exhuast. White = Coolant, Blue = Oil, Black = Rich Fuel Mixture...you don't want to see any of these coming out of your exhaust! Take it out on the road and push it hard....solid? Steering tight and responsive? Smooth Transmission (automatic)? Clutch solid and not slipping (manual)? When purchasing mine from a Chrysler dealership, some of the items I mentioned were not working. They became part of the sales aggreement and were all repaired as part of the deal. For example my passenger seat did not heat up. $500 module behind the dash was the fix.
Consider having the car windows tinted and rust proofed as I managed to have that thrown in for free.
Whatever happens, you will have no regrets.
Good Luck!

Minor details I worried about after buying the car. After I took it for a test drive and a litteral spin, I fell in love.

The next week, i had the option of paying $400 for 12 spark plug change (which i had never heard of until then), or trying to do that pain in the *** job myself. Needless to say my hands were burned and cut up by the time i finished the job at that price

Take CARE with window tints, as a few states have changed the Law recently, I.E.Texas. Check prior to application.
