Default Replacing Red Hazard Light Button?

:? I want to replace the red triangle button for the hazard lights with one which matches the aluminium (aluminum?) of the console. I would be with a silver button which has a small red triangle in the middle.

Does anyone know if this is firstly legal in the UK (as all cars seem to have a big red button these days); and secondly if it is possible :?: Any advice on this would be most welcome.

The option of prying the existing button off and spraying it silver seems a little ad-hoc.

I'd like to know myself LOL. That button is ugly and looks a little out of place.

I would not be quite so sure about the legal......this is "factory installed" safety equipment which to the best of my knowledge may not be modified in the EU.
Don't know if you will be lucky in finding a fitting replacement, since I think most of the MB cars sport this big red button....for safety :-D

Lots of cars sport the big red button, but on others I've owned it hasn't been as prominent (like on the steering column). Am going to try to prise it out and do something about it.

Have not found any literature to say I can't change its colour. If it is illegal to do so, shouldn't the manual state that you can't change change it? I think it dangerous as its distracting me while I drive.

Considering fitting a silver overcoat, which I can remove at service time!!

LOL...bob the manual only covers what is not covered by your local UK-rules and regulations.
I guess if the thing really bothers you than I would get a replacement from the dealer first. This way you know
1. How much the change will cost you.
2. If you don't like the result of the mod you can immediately switch back to stock and forget you ever messed with it.
3. Look at the mounting points so you can figure out how to remove the one in the panel now.

I don't know if you have to visit some inspection place bi-annually like we do in my native Germany. Depending on the mood of the "inspector" you may not get the all important "TUV" sticker if you're not 100% legal. Other than that I doubt you'd get in trouble, you're just not legal ;-)

As a quick example I once had to, come back = pay 49 Euros, to show off 4 self locking nuts / threads where 2.5mm instead of 2mm showed above the top of the nut. Technically the difference was --> ZERO and the nuts were actually the same, just "modified" to satisfy :-) since they were special order for the steering linkage on my GTV 625. As soon as the inspection was complete and I had my sticker I replaced them with 4 new ones.

In the UK we have to take a car which is 3 years or older to be tested (called the MOT). They test the lights, brakes, suspension and steering, as well as the emissions, but I am not aware that checking the damned button is red is on their list. I am going to try and find out.

Having great difficulty at the moment getting the red triangle out without damaging the fascia.

Have bought a selection of silver/metal paints to see which matches best.

I would think removing the sun visor WARNING sticker on air bags would be more illegal since it more harmful to passengers and drivers!!!

That is why I suggested to get a replacement button first. So you can look at exactly what's required to remove it :-)

LOL AZ you are truly Outlaw material.....I am still debating if I should take the letters of the tail......I just can't decide.

Yes Dan taking those Airbag stickers off is illegal and in law suit happy USA it may have very serious consequences should the unthinkable happen. So I took them off as soon as I got her home ;-)

Dan be really careful with your pillows too. If you remove those tags the sleep police come and you could be sentenced to 30 days of insomnia.   Just an attempt at a little humor.... Don't get upset...

BTW Please don't tell on me.... But, I too removed my stickers from my visors.. Shhhhhh!!!

I don't smoke but I use butane lighters to light candles and I always remove the warning stickers on my throw-away lighters.... I know I'm a very bad person.
