Service History Log Book Delay
Service History Log Book Delay
When I picked up my XF in April 04, the dealer told me that since the car was so new in the UK, the Log Books had not been printed. I was told to expect mine in the post in the future. However, I did get the Owners Manual.
Does anyone know if this is true?
Incidentally, my wife picked up her PT Cruiser at the same time, and her Log Book is now integrated into the Owners manual, which I thought was pretty neat.

Dan,
In the UK the Service Log Book is where the dealer places his official stamp to say you have car serviced by a recognised dealer, and the mileage gets recorded. When we come to sell cars in the UK, you get a higher price for vehicles with a Full Service History (FSH) (i.e. a complete Service Log Book). You may call it something different.
I wish it was done by computer - it would give me one less item to lose.
Are your cars more valuable when you sell them, if you have had them properly maintained?

The dealership that I leased my Crossfire from has a formal agreement that specifies an additional $1000 for your trade-in if the logbook is up-to-date and all work has been performed at that dealership. That practice is becoming more common across the US. There is an obvious "hook" to promote service work at the dealership, but...
Many DaimlerChrysler dealerships are now involved in the DCX Certified Used Car program, which offers an 80,000 mile 8 year warranty on any Certified Used Car purchased at the dealership. It costs a dealer much less to "certify" a used car that has been maintained at or beyond manufacturer requirements, so they can afford to pay more for that trade-in.
Import owners have known for years that regular maintenance not only pays immediate dividends in performance and reliability, but can certainly increase the vehicle's value at trade in. Domestic owners are just now beginning to discover that this is true in many cases.
