Default Transmission fluid cap?

I just got a crossfire and I want to check the transmission fluid level. I have had several MB and I know that there is no dipstick for them. On the MB and my previous SLK there is the tube that comes up and has the cap that you can take off to measure the fluid level. I even have an OEM dipstick. On my MB I have taken the cap and measured the fluid many times. The problem that I am having with the crossfire is that there is no tube that comes up. There is a round cap (not the one used on the tube that comes up) right on the transmission case. First question, is this how the crossfire is supposed to be? Do they not even have the tube that comes up from the trnny? If so, how can I take that cap off, without braking and having pieces fall in?

There is a tube with a sealed cap on it. You have to break the red tab to remove it. The cap can be reused without the red locking tab. I believe it near the back of the engine on the passenger side.

Thank you for your quick replies.
Yes, it is an auto.

The problem is that, this doesn't have the tube that comes up and has the cap you mention. I am aware of that at least on MB. The plug on this is right on the transmission case. Usually there is the tube, comes up and then its the cap you are talking about. The crossfire doesn't have that. Is that how it is supposed to be?

Should be there, right behind the engine, on the passenger side. Someone should be able to post a picture.

I think I am not being very clear. I know where the tube is supposed to be, and where it connects on the transmission. I am also aware of the cap, how it looks and how to take it off. The problem is that the dipstick tube is not there. There is a cap right were the tube is supposed to be connected on the transmission case. I have serviced my previous SLK on the past. From what I am gathering the crossfire also is supposed to have the tube, for some reason my doesn't have?

And I am asking the question because under hard acceleration the car goes into limp mode and I wanted to check the level.

YES, there is supposed to be a tube with a cap. Seems someone removed it. I would suggest searching around the part-out adds in the forum, or the internet for a salvage car that is being parted out.
