Default Dealer Paint Protection Service

I just brough my XF to the dealer for the free paint protection service. Its guaranteed for 5 years and they said the car would never have to be waxed. Anybody know anything about this? I dont see any threads on the subject. Thanks

Free, are you sure you weren't charged for it somewhere??? I would check your contract to make sure it wasn't added in, if it was... have it removed.

The so called "paint protection service" is usually offered as an over priced add-on and is nothing more than a money maker for the dealer... stay away from it!!! This has been around a long time in various forms and is not much more than snake oil. A similar package was sold in Sacramento in the late 70's under the name of, "Ming Paint Protection". It is nothing more than taking some polishing compounds and high speed buffing out your car. It's advertised as a sealer that closes up the pores in your paint job. While it does bring a gloss to your cars finish, it fads and is not worth the money... IMHO.

Note: If you find it was unknowingly added into your contract, confront the dealer and advise your finance company. It takes some leg work but it can be removed and your monthy payments are reduced.

I've got the Carecraft Paint Protection on my Crossfire. I have yet to wax it and don't intend to wax it, ever. Once the Carecraft is applied, you do not wax. Once every 6 months you use a polish they supply (for free) to remove any surface accumulations that are not removed by normal washing. For the >$200 I paid, I'm getting EXCELLENT rain beading, awesome shine after washing, and every painted part on my car is covered even for things like tree sap, bird droppings, acid rain, etc., all those things that the D/C warranty DO NOT COVER.

I look through the forum here at all the time and effort people spend on things like CrystalGuard, multiple coats of Zaino, Meguiar's Tech Wax, etc. etc. etc., and I look at the 'shine' in their pics after spending a whole day or whole weekend working on the car, and I see just as good a shine on mine just from washing and drying it.

But everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I'm not trying to knock anyone here at all. Just giving you MY personal observation.

it's all a quick dollar dealer scam imo. i sold this paint protection sealant crap when working at zeibart while in college. a big dealer profit maker for the "uneducated" car buyer.

every car should be waxed at the minimum of once every 6 months for adequate protection.

I'm not trying to argue with you but not all of us spend whole days or weekends keeping our rides looking great. I can wipe down my car (very seldom take water to it here in the desert) and lay on a coat of Tech Wax in a matter of two hours tops and get a great long lasting shine. It's easy on and very easy off.

I don't agree with your statement about the paint protection being a great product, then again if your happy, that's all that counts. As Andrew and I both said, in our opinion it is only a money maker for the dealer. Been there and done that. Within a year or two, depending how much your car sits in the sun, the overpriced "high speed" buffing job the dealer put on your car will wear out and it will be time to head down to the auto store to pick out your favorite wax/polish.

It's hard to tell the high gloss shine on some colors but it's there. I waxed AZXFIRE two weeks before the LCH and it still feels slicker than owl snot...

If nothing else, you have to agree with me on one thing... this thread was a great excuse to post a pic of AZXFIRE... the "Best XF Ever" and have it seen by millions of people around the world!!!

While I've no firsthand experience with owl snot, I assume by the tenor of your comment that it must be pretty 'slick'. Do you know how "slick" owl snot is compared to, say, whale shxt, which I've been told by a reliable source is also a pretty slick substance?

The finish on mine (even though it's been sitting at the office for a week outside while I was on travel) is quite 'slick' to the touch, water beads up and rolls right off in the breeze, and it's never been waxed. Oh well, to each his/her own.

Sorry AZ, but we'll just have to agree to disagree about that "Best" claim...

All I know is that when I leased my previous car, the dealer insisted that I have the annual paint protection applied free of charge each year, and even gave me a cash incentive at the end of the lease if I did so. They said that it makes a big difference in resale value when they have to turnaround the leased vehicle four years later. I have to admit, the paint job looked showroom new after those four years.

I bought the paint protection for my XFire and almost a year later, it looks as good as ever with just a wash. No, it's not as slick as that glass look you get with Zaino, but it's as good as any on the showroom floor.

I'm getting ready to try the Cilajet protection. Supposed to be guaranteed for 5 years. Including wheels, getting the interior done. All this is in March. When I post those pictures, I will have the MOST BEAUTIFUL XFire. LOL.

I guess you read all the previous posts?
I think the following is quite hilarious.

He paid not to wax his car, but he has to polish the car every 6 months and says he is happy with that.
As PT Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute.
