Sticky Key
You are determined to give the dealer your money, good luck.
You get good advice and ignore it, I am sure there are many here that would have fixed your car and given you the cup holder for way less that you are getting screwed for. As a bonus you would never have the problem again.

That's not fair to say that. I'm a lady and can't fix my car myself. I sure didn't see anyone offer, nor was I asking anyone to do that. I didn't come in here for advise, I came in here to tell people what happend and what I was going to do, and what I was being charged. The other post were saying $1000.00 to fix it.
I also said how to run your car till you could get it fixed. It was something my son figured out. When I was at the first dealer last week, they had just towed a car in for the same problem. I just didn't want anyone to be caught in that position. Stuck!
Thanks to everyone for all the advise, next time, I will keeps thing to myself
Don't let Dave run you off, he's not a bad guy, just irritating.
The dealerships do what the service manual tells them, but had you shown up before committing to them, I'd tell you to print out our "Stick Ignition Key Fix" and take it to a local shop you trust. MOST ANY garage guy can do the work based on our tutorial. At around $100 an hour, I'd expect to pay $150 or so for them to fix it.
No parts needed, just the mechanic's time.

I just thought that if this happened to another lady, she would know what to do with the steerling wheel to get the car started and not get panicked, like I did.

Well as a lady and one who can actually fix the minor things, I would not be offended at all by the advice and / or the comments. This forum has been an invaluable source of information and help anytime I have had a problem and these guys have saved me a ton of money. While my fixes have often had to be performed by a mechanic I still went in with the knowledge of what was going on.... and we all know that Knowledge is Power. Helps to know so as not to be taken. Thanks for your information on the ignition problem, I will keep that in mind and Thank you Guys, I Love Ya!!!!

That's not fair to say that. I'm a girl and can't fix my car myself. I didn't come in here for advise, I came in here to tell people what happend and what I was going to do, and what I was being charged. The other post were saying $1000.00 to fix it.

Let me clarify... One hundred is just different. He reacts differently. I just wouldn't get offended by his comments. It is just the way he is... And you have to accept him for who he is. He is one unique guy. If he knew you were a lady I am sure he would have treated you like one!

The beauty of the forum fix is that it will not fail again as the offending part in it is removed forever. Having a new assembly put in at the exorbitant price it is may lead to a future failure again, so you have gained nothing and lost $$$$$.
I think your dealer has misdiagnosed the problem, your problem is probably the the sticky key problem. Tumblers do not often fail, a squirt of lock oil usually solves any binding in them.
Sorry if you got upset but you seem intent on wasting money, money that may be spent on the wrong item. That means that there will be more money to be spent on the correct item.
If Pizza man says I am irritating then so be it, no helpful hints to him in the future.
If blackcrossfire07 thinks non Americans are hard to get along with, then that may be the trouble with the US today.
I know I said non Americans but I really meant to say something else... But I didn't want to start a political discussion. So I will keep my mouth shut. She just doesn't know you like we do... So it is difficult to digest what you say and not get offended. But we know who you are and let it roll off our backs. But I think billy Joel has a song that describes you pretty well.
hey pizzaguy !!! Might take you up on that help with sticky key !! Im not having problems yet but sounds like only time will tell !!! Read the fix not sure if Im up for all that ! I will buy plenty of jungle juice too !!!
Hey guys... I just tried to take my key out and its stuck. I can't start the car, or take the key out. I can move it through the different positions though. Do I have to do all this sticky key stuff?
Some of these threads really make my day...Cruiser not willing to go tell her "crooked" dealer he's full of crap, and they can shove the parts up their behinds... YOUR dealer Cruiser if ripping women off, period. Dave, we all love to pick on you, as stated in another thread, you are getting too old to get upset, so learn to get even like me. Thank goodness my keys still turn...the day they don't, we know what to do thanks to the forum.....NOT DEALERS Cruiser....lol......but we love ya just the same....
Do a search and you will see this is a common problem. It is the steering wheel lock that is jammed. Not the ignition cylinder. Save your money and don't let them replace these parts.
Some people around here say our cars are solid... and there re no "common" problems. I say that is not true. Our cars are not solid and we all suffer from the same issues. This ignition key is one of the many typical problems.

Other thenthis , sorry if I'm going off topic -_-
Ok group, getting ready to tackle the sticky key fix as discussed on this site. I do appreciate all the effort that was put into creating the directions and the great pictures. I think I will be OK with the job itself, but I do have one question on wording in step 10; it says to "grab the black cylinder and rotate it counterclockwise about 90 degrees and the key tumblers will come out". That does not mean they actually drop on the floorboard right? Do I leave the key in until I start the reassembly?
Probably simple for most of you to understand, my guess is i am over-thinking this thing. thanks again!

It means the "Key tumbler assembly" - nothing to worry about.
I believe you leave the key in the tumbler assembly ... I'd need to read the instructions to be sure.
But it's not a bad job at all - even for the mechanically challenged like me.
