Spark plug nightmare
Have an 04 crossfire coupe and changed the spark plugs with bosch iridium 9600 also changed oil....put everything back together and started engine / now it is spits and sputters and the engine light is on. Rev'ed up motor to about 2 then let it idle and the check engine light started flashing....i need to know what to do to get my car running smooth and to get the check engine light off.... Any help would be greatly appreciated !!! Have been dealing with this for 2 days and the temp outside is 102/103 so it is very frustrating. !!!! Thanks
feel like coil pac's are the same as i took them off but if you have a picture that you could post would be great / this is the first time changing plugs myself due to trying to save money but this is a *****.....the spark plugs are suppose to be gapped already and so i just put them on right out of the box....if you could please tell me what gap i am suppose to have them at / i would appreciate that too. thank you for any information you can give me so i can get my car running again...it's my wife's car.....
As long as the same plug wires go back on the same spots where they were originally, and of course seated properly, you should be ok. Sometimes the plugs are not seated correctly. They should feel like they pop in when connected right. Good luck. I always make sure the plugs are numbered before taking them off and placing them back in the exact spot.
normally i usually mark the plugs but i didn't this time / i am pretty sure that the A is in the A and the B is in the B....BUT was wondering if there is a picture out there that i can see to make sure of this.....do you happen to have one ??? thank you

The flashing light is a serious problem, you did put the oil back in it?
Do not drive it until the light at least stops flashing.
Did you smash the insulator on any of them?
Gap is .040" (1mm)
Make sure the metal connector inside the rubber cap is firmly on the spark plug terminal and not just held in place by the rubber gripping the insulator.
I guess that the two spark plug wire should go to the proper plug, left and right as they were. The lower wire from the pack goes to the plug in the rear position on each cylinder.
Plugs may or may not be gapped for your particular vehicle, always check.
A plug is a plug and does not have to go back where it came from next time if you just clean them rather than replace them.

thank you for the picture, i compared it to how i have mine back together and it looks the same / unhooked my battery for about 30 minutes...hooked it back and started the car the engine service light was off and it seemed to idle ok / rev'd the motor up to 1500 RPM'S and the engine service light came back on and the idle started to get rough.....i am just not for sure what else i need to do....at my Witt's end !!
Hmm.. I'd say you need to pull the code and see what it says.. Maybe a harbor freight store would have a cheap one? Have to wonder how trashed the old plugs were? "Almost" sounds like its having AFR issues.. I'd be about tempted to let it idle for a few minutes then lightly blip the throttle.. as long as the check engine light didn't come up.
EDIT:
Just checked harbor freight.. no cheap ones.. got mine on Amazon for about 18 bucks but I don't think your wanting to wait on shipping on this deal..
And since your not running off anywhere in it soon... (sorry..lol)... I'd be real tempted to pull the easiest plug and recheck that "pre gapped for your convience" feature.. Had them before I had to fix...

ok / afraid to drive it anywhere to get a code until the engine service light goes off....the thing that bothers me is that it was fine before i changed the plugs....No Service Engine light was on, and the car ran just fine, just needed to change plugs and changed oil....so that is what i did...i did nothing else / going to try to gap the plugs and see if that will change anything, the car has the right amount of oil. thank you again
Just raised the hood on mine.. about all I could come up with is..sit back.. drink a beer.. then pull the engine cover off and make sure you didn't accidentally pull a vacuum line loose? Just as a 1 in a million shot.. Don't live in Tulsa or immediate south west of there by chance..?

You didn't by any chance remove that vacuum line that goes from the engine to the solenoid on the driver side fender well did you ?
That is often done because it is in the way, and you forget to hook it back up .......
( I can recall 2 occasions where I was guilty of that )

OOOOPS - sorry Mr. Miata sir, overlooked that.
Ran like crap, but I never did see a CEL, but who knows, different cars act differently.
( Maybe mine knows I'm old and feeble minded, and cuts me some slack )

Have my doubts she's going to cut me that much slack though..
Did you connect the coils up correctly, I am not sure if you can plug the coils in wrongly, the cables may only fit in one spot due to the length of them, but this is a classic symptom of the wrong firing order being set up. Can you post a picture of the cable connections to the coil pack from the main harness?
I done this. Duh. Front 2 on passenger side.
