Default Tranny question

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.... I noticed that when the car is still cold, when I start out from a stop it feels like the transmission is popping back into gear, even though I never moved it out of Drive. Happens when first starting off and also at stop signs/lights. I have a 2004 XFire with the automatic transmission. Once the car warms up I don't notice this anymore. any thoughts????

When you say cold. How cold are we talking?

Not sure I understand your question, the car has to be in gear when you "start out from a stop", so what do you mean by "popping back into gear"? Perhaps you are feeling a hard shift from 1st to 2nd? It happens very quickly. If this is what you mean, try setting transmission to W mode (which starts in 2nd instead of 1st), and see if it acts the same.

The car is in gear, normal driving, I come to a stop sign. When I take off from the stop it feels like it had slipped out of gear and pops back into gear. I don't know how to better explain it, just feels like it slipped out of gear and then pops back in when I accelerate from a stop. Like I said, this is only true until the car warms up.

I have never experience that with my auto in ~9,000 miles, nor do I recall anyone posting here anything like that. Sounds like a trip to the dealership is in order.

I was figuring that's what would be the result. I'm finding the quality of this car to be quite questionable for the $35,000+ I put out. I've read many post on this board with people having some of the same other problems and issues that I'm having. Some rather expensive to correct, such as the flimsy front bumper that gets damaged easily and costs close to $900 to fix when hitting a piece of rubber on the freeway. I'd think for this type of money that at least the bumpers would withstand rubber and the windows would roll up properly so the doors would close all the way. Can hardly wait for my first $100+ oil change[/list]

Don't get TOO overly discouraged reading here. Remember, most people only complain about things that are a problem, people don't often post 'complaints' about things that AREN'T a problem. Remember, for ever 1 person posting about a particular problem, there are probably 20,000+ Crossfire owners NOT having the problem. Like I said, I've been on here (since Feb) and I've read pretty close to every post on the forum, and I've never seen a report of the problem you describe. Not that someone else hasn't had it, I just don't recall seeing it. Most all the tranny troubles people have reported have been with the manual.

For what it's worth, my first complete "Schedule A" service (2 days ago, at ~8600 miles with 300 to go according to the computer) was $75, minus 10% for a web coupon from the dealership's web site.

Not on the forum. But I'm seeing VIN's in the high 20,000 range at my closest dealership, and nothing under 20,000. So... :?: :?: :?:

W = Winter
S = Summer

In W mode, the car starts in second gear instead of first.

The problem your'e talking about sounds like the electric throttle why it's doing it only cold might be the tranny fluid being cold.Ask your dealer to keep it over night and drive it cold.I have felt a slight clunk in the tranny feels like downshift very low speed almost rolling under 10mph.

LordPercy, I expect to be able to give you a good number next week. My roadster is supposed to be leaving the factory on August 30th. The dealer is going to give me the build number as soon as he gets it. I'll post it when I get it. It will definitely be up in the 20's.

The Crossfire tech at my dealer had the same problen, although he has a stick car. He had to replace the transmission (under warranty)

Someone in the Roadster Forum said their build # was 35000+

darice57: I had a small accident and it was actually cheaper to replace the front bumper than to repair the original. Cost about $450.00.

And actually, for a brand new vehicle, I don't think we have had all that many problems. I think you will find most people posting here are quite pleased with the quality. Except for the manual transmission problem, which appears to have been only in the early build numbers, the problems really have been minor irratations.

The most important thing is to find a dealer that you are comfortable with!!!! That seems to be the biggest problem the owners are reporting here.

I received my build number today. My roadster left the factory on August 30th and is on the ship to Maryland. The build number is 41,236.
