2006 crossfire oil filter cap leaking
Re: 2006 crossfire oil filter cap leaking
There is also an o-ring at the top of the threads on the oil filter housing/cartridge cap. If that o-ring is damaged you would get leakage from it. I have not seen just that o-ring for sale. You may have to purchase the entire filter cartridge. Someone else may be able to chime in on how to get just the o-ring.

It's a standard (Metric) O-ring. You should be able to find one at any industrial supply.
I would suggest Viton for synthetic oil service.
The last time I bought a K&N filter, it came with that o-ring.

All of them did-I checked. I have them all on my shelf!

You said you replaced 3 o-rings, there are 4 o-rings on it. If you tighten it to much it can cause it to leak. Are you tightening it by hand or are you using a wrench on it? The first couple of times I changed the oil I used a filter wrench to tighten it and it would leak. I've never had it leak again after I started tightening it by hand.

Per the last three posts, make sure the large O-ring is in the second groove from the top; not all the way to the top. Unless the filter housing has a hairline crack, it shouldn't need to be replaced. I'm betting its an O-ring or over tightening issue.
Here's a pic from a prior post that shows the O-ring placement.

Re: 2006 crossfire oil filter cap leaking
I had this happen once: It was because I didn't push the filter on the spindle with enough force to snap it into place. When I pulled the filter housing to investigate, the filter fell right off the spindle. I have discovered that some filters have a tighter collar and require more force to seat. On the filter housing there is a reference mark which will be at "nine o'clock" (viewed from the front of the car) when the housing is sufficiently snug. TBW

Mathteach - let us know the final resolution since, hopefully, you have all summer off to resolve this leak.

The four O-rings are shown in position.
Over tightening within reason will not cause the leakage. You will break the filter housing first and cause leakage, the O-rings are in grooves that prevent leakage from over tightening.
