When I see three tries to start the car and then Nada, I think of SKREEM problems.
If it is it is an awkward and sometimes expensive repair.
Have you got another key? It is possible that the chip inside the fob has a problem.
Or the halo ring around the ignition key hole has a problem, if it is disconnected or has a poor connection the car will not start

I'm hoping you were also playing around under the dash.. and knocked the wire off the transponder ring on the ignition that reads the rfid chip in the fob.

If not you really need to search " skreem " . And this is typically not good news. There has been a fair amount of this lately.

It sounds like the skreem, the 2 or 3 cranks and then nothing. Pull the battery cable and repeat.
the second key didn't help. You guys say this is bad news ;-((
so for real there is no easy fix????

In the repair manual there is a notation about retrieving the "secret code" from the old skreem to program into the new one.. Otherwise it's new keys to go with it... at your expense! A couple have reported this as a $600 dollar fix..

Just thought I'd throw this out so they don't bend you over and tell you smile .. it's fixed..

What do you mean you reprogrammed the keys?
I thought a new SKREEM required new chips in the keys. The chips are programed at a secure facility, not the dealership.

Not if they retrieve the "secret code" stored in the old skreem. It's in the service manual. Page 562..

The SKREEM retains in memory the ID numbers of any ignition key transponder that is programmed into it. For

added system security each SKREEM is programmed with a unique secret key code. This code is stored in memory,

sent over the CAN data bus to the PCM, and is encoded to the transponder of every ignition key that is programmed

into the SKREEM.

In the event that a SKREEM replacement is required, the secret key code can be transferred to the new SKREEM

from the PCM using the DRB IIIT scan tool and the ignition key system replacement programming procedure.

Proper completion of the ignition key system initialization will allow the existing ignition keys to be programmed into

the new SKREEM so that new keys will not be required. In the event that the original secret key code cannot be

recovered, SKREEM replacement will also require new ignition keys. The DRB IIIT scan tool will alert the technician

during the key reprogramming procedure if new ignition keys are required.

Sounds like time for either a Tuner or a 15-year-old with a Raspberry Pi.
