Talking tire pressure

Ok, I got my oil changed today for the first time and was having a problem with the tire sensor coming on when the car was cold the last few weeks. I had been keeping the pressure at 33 and 34. The dealer said it should be 40 so that is what they put in the tires at the oil change. Does this sound right? He said they read the proper pressure on the tires themselves.

Thanks in advance!

If you look at the drivers side doorjam, the correct tire pressures are listed there. My '05 Roadster has Continental tires on it and it says the rear tires should have 33 and the fronts should have 32. I think 40 is way too much, if it was my car.

That is what I thought, but they looked at the tires and specs and that is what they put in.

I wouldn't trust the dealer on everything. The tires pressure sensors were put in those wheels for a reason. They have shallow tires, and if the pressure isn't ideal, it's going to affect the performance of the car and also the tire wear. Does it have stock tires and wheels on it? If it does, I would buy my own tire guage and keep the tires at 33 and 32#.
But that's me. You can do what you want

Yes, it has the wheels and tires that came with it. The dealer looked on the TIRES and went with that number. It says on the tires...max pressure 40.

My tires say this on them:
SAFETY WARNING
SERIOUS INJURY MAY
RESULT FROM:
*TIRE FAILURE DUE TO
UNDERINFLATION/
OVERLOADING*FOLLOW
OWNERS MANUAL OR
TIRE PLACARD IN VEHICLE
*EXPLOSION OF TIRE/RIM
ASSEMBLY DUE TO IMPROPPER
MOUNTING - ONLY SPECIALLY
TRAINED PERSONS SHOULD
MOUNT TIRES.
NEVER EXCEED 40 PSI
WHEN SEATING BEADS.
Right next to the drivers seat on the door jam is the "placard" that has the "Tire Inflation Pressure" on it. The 40PSI is only for when they are mounting the tire on the wheel so that the bead seats properly, not for the tire inflation when they are on the car.

Just stop at Walmart and buy a $3 pencil tire guage and let the air out yourself. It's like pumping your own gas, once you do it you'll see it wasn't such a big deal afterall.
