I bought one of the little kits with a bracket for the dash and a button that attaches to the back of the phone. The original double sticky tape wouldn't hold on the dash, so I used a "removable" tape designed for use on brick. Since the silver of the phone matches the silver of the dash, it blends in nicely. I mounted it between the ignition switch and the center console, where it's easy to grab while driving.
Installed the blue tooth motorola kit. Mic is located by the steering wheel. Controls are located just above the mirror. Speaker behind the dash. Auto mute ran to the aftermarket deck.
Phone can stay in your pocket. Only thing that sux are the roads out here. Some at high way speeds put too much sound into the cockpit of the car. Annoys the crap out of the people on the other end.

Anyone use the panavise? I had one on my previous car and was very pleased! Although I am unsure about the mounting location for our cars...it seems odd.. Doing a google images search will turn it up.
For me I used my little cubby. Fit my Blackberry 8830 in its leather holster quite nicely... No complaints here.
I'm using a ProClip with pass-through dock for my iPhone 3G. I use it with my Alpine hu, which also has Bluetooth. I'll post pictures once the new dock holder comes in.
I use the ashtray too. For calls though I bought one of the new Kenwood car stereo decks and it has bluetooth built in to it. There is a little mic that runs up to the side pillar and hooks onto the visor. (of course the wire is hidden). It works really well and I've tried driving and talking with out it and it's definitely not easy.
I've got a bulky Treo 700W and it rests nicely between that area just to the right of the emergency brake handle. I put a Sony radio with bluetooth so I can do hands free calling.
I also have bluetooth integration with an aftermarket headunit so I don't actually need to take it out of my pocket to dial or receive calls, but sometimes I do anyway. I have one of those grippy stickers on the back of my phone so I can put it almost anywhere in the car and it won't slide around (the center armrest, passenger seat or dashboard). Even as well as the car handles (.92g I think I read) I have yet to throw the phone.
