Default Anyone Notice the built in Air Compressor?

I have never owned a car that actually came with an air compressor.

It's better than nothing, a can of fix-a-flat and a pump. It has been reported that if the hole in the tire is too big it won't work. BTW, If you are on vacation or away from home and ruin a tire I'm told that the tires are kinda hard to find. I wonder if they sell a runflat tire in our sizes?

that's because you probably never owned a car without a spare.

do yourself a favor and get a tire plug repair kit and needlenose pliers to carry in your car. the tire-fit sealant isn't really "fit" for using since it can clog the valve and trigger the tire pressure sensor. however, the compressor really does come in handy and works quite well.

If you use the repair kit the tire is a write off. Well, that's what I was told by a tire and exhaust center.

are you referring to a using a rubber tire plug or the tire-fit sealant?

i think a lot of tire centers are interested only in selling you a new tire vs. repairing an existing tire. so even though a plug can void the warranty on a tire, it is still worth doing if you are otherwise stranded. plus, tire warranties have so many disclaimers that it is very rarely that they are enforceable. my left rear tire not only has tire-fit sealant in it, it also has a plug. i plan to replace all 4 tires together in another 3 years or so.

i carry a "plug repair kit" with me at all times...stored next to the compressor in the lower hatch area.

a plug repair kit about $5 at your local auto parts store...cheap insurance imo.

I agreed in sales point of view regarding tire centers. Its more to business comes first.
I also agreed as a driver point of view, safety comes first. When travelling in another state, like where I am right now, I have to be more aware that help is not within reach even with a cellphone. I carry a set of "repair kit" too. Don't leave home without it.
Well its just my personal opinion.

Ok amendment : Here, in Wheels,Tires.... there was a discussion about run-flat tires and how is it possible for usage and pros and cons. As I remember.... someone I knew started that thread.

Alright here we are...

Thank you.

If you pay attention to where you drive and change tires when the tread depth gets to the danger zone you will be fine. I never liked those leprechaun tires anyway. Opps, also don't drive around new construction zones like new homes (lots of nails). By the way the air compressor works great for your bike and/or other cars etc.
