A few question from a first time owner.
Hi all,
Just bought my first crossfire (08 Coupe) as a replacement for my Subaru Legacy. Just had a few quick questions if anyone could offer any advice.
Firstly I know the general subject of this has been done to death but I made the mistake of taking matters into my own hands before doing a massive amount of research. So the dealer I purchased the car from gave me one key. I proceeded to contact our New Zealand local Chrysler dealer who would be happy to get me one for wait for it........... $1200. Considering that's roughly 1/8th of what I paid for the car there's no way that's happening so I did literally half a minute of research and ordered 2 second hand Mercedes SLK320 key fobs and 2 new shells with uncut blades. Evidentially although they aren't here yet further reading it became clear even if I can re program them to unlock the car it probably won't start unless I'm mistaken ?
Secondly I switched out the head unit (already had an aftermarket alpine in it) with a Pioneer which I am very happy with I am puzzled however by the rear subs. I added RCA's as I probably wont bother with the janky looking what I'm guessing are amps behind both seats. Instead I'm planning on simply putting a small Pioneer amp in and simply powering them off that. Just wanted to make sure they are indeed amps and not crossovers for the front door speakers (still factory) or something as they aren't bolted down and the rear subs don't work seems it'll be easier to do that and just rip the amps out and go 2 channel Pioneer ? Anybody simply gone that route.
Apologies if any of these subjects have been hammered any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Crossfire ownership!
On the key issue. Each keyfob has an RFID chip in it that is programmed to a specific car; spare keys that you purchase from the dealer or a place like NeedsWings get programmed for your car before they are shipped to you. Your uncut blades could be cut to work in your locks, but without the programmed chip, they won't start the car. What some folks do that have only one key, is take the chip out and glue it or tape it to the transponder ring, then any properly cut key will start the car, because the chip is always present.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the reply. I figured that might be the case unfortunately with the exchange rate and our government stealing a chunk on the way into the country ordering from anywhere outside NZ unless it was exceptionally cheap means value wise I'd just as soon have to get one from the dealer. I might just have to roll with hope I don't lose the key, can't say I've ever lost car keys in the past but knowing my luck this being the first car with this type of system I've owned it'll probably be the only time I do lose them.

On your key issue , lost mine and got burned on the EBay key , ring and anti theft module. That didn’t work because you need all three, the key, the ring the module and the ecu to be married. Also your ecu must be for your specific transmission auto or manual. Do know Needs Wings is no longer taking orders for keys. Rumor is Chrysler is not going to carry them in inventory any more. Better off finding a wrecking yard and if you can find a car that has keys and is the same transmission as yours pull the ignition components and all the lock mechanisms for a spare if you lose your key or one of the other components goes bad.

If you are going to get into this, you might want to read this thread, this is a good source of information about the factory sound system.

There are no crossovers, but one of us did come up with a mod that creates a crossover for the door speakers and it really helps:

HI,
Thanks for letting me know. By janky I just mean nasty, rubbish so on and so forth. I flipped one of them over after reading your post to see if there was anything written on the back they both say crossover on the back I assumed they were amps due to the fact they certainly aren't small. I'm assuming someones got them wired to the front doors.
Once this whole lock down thing eases which for us in NZ is looking like about a weeks time I was planning on taking it to an auto electrician to have the Japanese toll road thing that screams at me every time I turn the car on taken out. I may have them trace the wires and see where we go from there. If they do what they're supposed to I have no issues with them staying they could do with being secured properly though as they seem to be cable tied through the carpet at the moment which is not cool.
Thanks for pointing out those threads though I'll definitely take a look may even point them to those when they have a look.
