Paint on rear hatch
I'll try to take pics tomorrow, but does anyone have problems with where the bump stop from the hatch meets the body of the car? On my car the paint is gone, it's down to bare paint and has some surface rust. I'm thinking of pushing the issue with my dealer, because it could be a paint issue and not a body issue. The way I'm thinking of fixing it is to get some 3M tape and some thin rubber pad over the spot after it has be repainted.
I know exactly what your talking about. When I brought mine home for the first time, I checked it over very well and noticed that the bumpers for the hatch were making marks on the paint. I had some teflon tape that I put under mine. It is clear and hard to see but it is starting to wrinkle up. Another place you need to check is the hood bumpers. Mine also scratch the paint. That could also be another rust area.
Well I finally took it in and they are going to repaint it! Now for the reason why it happened in the first place. When the hatch was closed if you pulled up on it, there was about little bit of play in it. So what they did was adjusted the height of the thing the latch latches to. We checked one of the new ones they had on their lot and there should be no play in the hatch at all or this will happen.

its in the hatch area. i would of touched it up (to prevent rust) and added 3M protective tape over top of it.
Well they just got done painting it and it's already doing it again. I told the body shop guy about the TSB for the latch and he said he was going to pass it on to the service shop and repaint it again. This might take awhile be for they get it right. I really hope they just replace the damn latch and be done with it.
My latch assembly has been on order for @ 2 months! This is also a source for a very annoying squeak on almost all road surfaces. This is what is causing the paint from scraping off, hence rust. Good luck!
I've noticed this as well and better just go ahead and get some clear tape on it. I agree with Andrew, I'd live with it instead of going to the dealership to have it touched up.
Someone said, I'd learn a lot here and they weren't kidding. I just popped the hatch and sure enough, I see what you folks are talking about. Fortunately mine has not gone through the paint, but in 800 miles it has put indentations in it on both sides. My experience with this type of stuff is stay as far away from a dealer's body shop as you can. My fix is going to be a lot of wax on the spots, probably once a week and hope that takes care of it. If it gets worse I'll go with the tape.
The only people I would let near my car with a paint gun is someone who I know of their work. I've had stuff done at the dealer on my wife's car and the work is poor and overspray usually ends up in the strangest places. I know DC owes it to you to make this right but I'd think long and hard about letting their paint shop near my car.
Just my two cents.

Well I talked to the dealer about the TSB about the rattle. They showed me the TSB and it says to weld a nut in place not to replace it. So there goes that. I think the only way we will get a real fix is if that everyone that has this problem is to go into the dealer and have them pass it up the chain. If enough of us are having the problem they will have to come up with something. I really can't believe they didn't noticed this problem in the R&D of this car.
