I voted 2, it's not the worst mistake I ever made (that would be the killer ex-wife from Heck).
What's wrong with my Crossfire now;
Darts to the right whenever the right front wheel experiences loss of grip (manhole covers, potholes, snow patches etc.) 6 dealer attempts to fix with no improvement.
Driver's door pops partway open. 6 dealer attempts to fix with minor improvement.
Driver's door rattles loosely in doorframe and moves around perceptibly. 6 dealer attempts to fix.
Wind noise from driver's side window. It used to hang up on the rain gutter and was remedied per the factory bulletin after the fifth complaint but it still doesn't fit right.
Road noise from driver's door. 6 dealer attempts to fix with no improvement.
Rear end shakes from side to side at idle in warm weather. Dealer can't duplicate this problem.
Has occasionally popped out of first and third gear. Dealer can't duplicate this problem.
Loud ticking noise from engine when cold. Dealer doesn't perceive this problem.
Passenger's door doesn't close all the way.
Road noise from passenger's door.
Wind noise from passenger's window.
No heat in driver's footwell unless all other heat is shut off. Dealers say that's normal.
Rattles and squeaks from instrument console. First appeared after dealer replaced instrument console to fix clock.
Air temperature gauge reads about 10º high. First appeared after dealer replaced instrument console to fix clock.
Driver's seat bottom heater doesn't work. 2 dealer attempts to fix, still doesn't work.
Driver's window rattles loosely in track. First appeared after factory bulletin fix.
Driver's door inner panel rattles. First appeared after factory bulletin fix.
Center console rattles.
Clanking noise in body above rear bulkhead.
Heats up too slowly, as if the thermostat is stuck partly open. Recent development.
Ashtray has to be pulled open.
The fourth time I brought the car into the dealer's service department for the darting, door, window and heater problems the service rep asked me not to bring the car in for those problems again. The next time I took the car to that dealer it came away with a set of gouges in the driver's door sill and scrapes in the driver's seat back.
I've sent in the card in the owner's manual and gotten no response. I've e-mailed the Chrysler complaint site and gotten the "try another dealer" reply several times. I've called the owner of the chain of dealerships and been told to contact the Better Business Bureau's lemon car arbitration board (which Daimler-Chrysler no longer participates in).
On the other hand;
I love this car. The steering is too slow, first second and third gears are too close together because it's underpowered and the heating and cooling system is primitive but it is a blast to drive. I go on trips into the hills of West Virginia and Pennsylvania every year and the Crossfire is an excellent vehicle for those winding two lane roads.

One caveat in my opinion, is that I think the nature of this board (and those that cared enough about their new XF's to find their way here), is intrinsically slanted toward the most favorable option.
I have 10,000 miles on it. I rated it a four. My XF is really nice but I still have a little growl that comes from the transmission area. You can also feel it in the clutch. I don't think it is much of a problem and has not gotten worst. The rest of the XF is perfect. I did have to fix the hatch rattle. I'm very happy with the car and would buy another one.
I had a few issues. All on the base of TSB. But certainly not as bad as John. That must be a Monday car or absolutely incapable dealers.
My fixes:
- headlight condensation
- rattles from liftgate area
- popping sound from side window area
- and finally the wind noise which never could have been resolved completely
I love the car. After 9 month and 26,000 km every ride still feels like the first time.

Only had mine, a used '04 with 12,000 miles on it for about a month.
I love it and have had no problems. I had a '96 Mustang GT Convertible that I bought new from the factory (ordered) and had nothing but problems with it from 24,000 miles onward. I loved that car but the Crossfire is far better in every way. There's no car on this Earth that could give me more problems than that Mustang and I don't race or drive hard.
Wind noise solved very easily. There's a gap in the corner of the weather stripping. Closed that up with some cut foam and it drastically reduced the wind noise.
I get lots of compliments.

Just under 4,000 miles - 350 this weekend on a trip to London and back - Crossfire still gets looks every where, easy to drive in the London traffic, good visibility, and the auto box make it fun even there. Fuel consumption surprising low on the motorway at a steady 75 to 80 mph (except for some overtaking).
Best bit - a Bentley GT came past at 90, slowed down as he came alongside, pulled in front of me, (with me thinking daft idiot), I pulled out, past him and pulled in again, only for him to immediately pull out and overtake again - yes I think he was actually checking the Crossfire out! (No I wasn't tempted to race)
I managed 24,000 really happy miles in mine before I returned it to DC. I would have brought it with me from the UK if the authorities would have approved the importation, but too many changes (!) required to meet Aussie design regs to make it worthwhile.
Just waiting now to pick another one up when I can afford it. Local dealer is offering AU$15k discount off list for a demo model. Am tempted, but will wait to see what they reduce off their SRT-6.
Still think the XF is one of the best looking cars around.

I rate it a 3.
LOVE IT... BUT:
The car is severely under-powered. I used to drive an SRT-4; Maybe that spoiled me.
Overall, it is a well-built piece of eye-candy. I never get tired of looking at it.
My dealer, Chris Nikels in Tulsa, OK has fixed EVERYTHING (except the hatch thing below) that has come up so far. Highly recommended dealer.
The doors scare me. I'm afraid that they will sag after a few years.
The windows scare me - I don't let people close the doors by pushing the window.
The transmission feels mushy and doesn't respond as well as I had hoped. (6-speed)
The hatch doesn't always close - dealer can't reproduce, although I "reproduce" it every day.

Without a doubt a 5 at this point. Seven months old, 5,500 miles. When people ask me if I've had any problems, I tend to be unable to think of anything even if I try. One small annoyance is the tire pressure indicator, as the allowed range seems to be close to the accuracy tolerance of the gauges.
Smooth shifting in first and second gear seems to be an impossible goal, as my passenger typically does a lot of head-bobbing. I also had it pop out of third gear once, which was a disturbing experience. This was during hard acceleration into 55 mph traffic from a dead stop, and I suppose I didn't fully get the stick into the slot.
My XF is an '05 Aero Blue/Vanilla limited roadster. I didn't care for the mapless stock nav unit (I didn't even test it), which I sold on ebay and replaced with a Sony mp3 CD unit. They have an aluminum finished model that matches the console well enough, in case anyone is interested. The display text is blue, though.

I got the car with 5,000 miles on it , had the radio changed out. The old one was dim. Had new liner under hood replaced, and the cup holder changed to a box. All done free.
I really love this little car, fun to drive, like a big go-kart. It's a ten in my book, just like Cindy2.

We've logged over 32,000 miles on our '04 with only one minor electrical problem with the interior lighting. It's a daily driver except on snow and ice and it's been our ride of choice on several vacations in the 1,500 to 2,000 mile range. We both absolutely love the car for its styling, build quality and class. We find it surprisingly comfortable and good riding considering the size, short wheelbase, low profile tires and all. (It's much better than we expected for this type of car.) Women and men, girls and boys all seem fascinated by it and we get a lot of questions regarding what it is.
We have had no mechanical problems at all We are still running the original Continental all-season tires but it's about time to replace the rears. It will do 27 mpg all-around even with playing around, and with care has done 29.6.
We bought it new after the 2005s were out and felt good about getting it (Limited 6-speed coupe) for under $30,000. We would do it again without hesitation. We don't understand why they aren't selling better and regret the inevitability that they won't be built much longer. It seems like Chrysler falls short on marketing sometimes. (Our other car is a Pacifica and we feel they missed on that one too.)
