Woodward Dream Cruise - August 16, 2008 - Detroit, MI

WDC Update
Valk has gotten many responses, thank you it really helped. At the 2007 WDC members requested to see another part of the cruise from a different location, specifically 13 and Woodward, which is the choice for 2008. Currently there are more XFs than spaces. This means not all of us will be parking our cars there and some members may choose to go to a second location with their car. Valk is checking if the Church can do a “per space” rental like last year instead of the whole lot. Two members have chosen to not park in the lot, which opens up their spaces.
One member commented that clubs should keep everyone together, that this is more important than a location. I am working on a “park and lock” location close to 13/WW. You would park your car close and catch a ride with another member to the 13/WW lot. Remember during the daytime while at 13/WW you will be wandering around and talking with members, not driving a car. Also the 30 spots are for Crossfires unless there isn’t a XF to fill it. In that case a non-Crossfire car, a friend of a member, is welcome to park there.
A new organization has taken over running the Cruise and the 13/WW lot has many new activities this year. It will be a learning experience for everyone. Bring your club banners with stands if you can. After 2008 we will have a better understanding of how it works.
The first 30 members who committed to attending have been sent a PM with a “due date’ of June 30, to reserve their 13/WW lot parking space. The list is below. After that date any spots left unpaid for will be offered to members in the order they signed up. The owner of the lot does not want 30 checks at $25.00 each. I’ll hold checks until all 30 spaces are paid for then deposit them so one check for the full amount can be given to the owner of the lot. If you pay and later find you are not able to attend, it’s up to you to “sell” your space to the next person on the list. There are no refunds.
The most important thing is the Cruise is a really fun day and having XF members there makes it even better. Most of the time you will be with your car and other members.

Parking lot wait list:
The arrangements are being handled the same as last year. We had two choices; first was to reserve space, pre-pay for dinners/food for a specific time. Second was to give them a good idea of what we will want/need the day of the Dream Cruise. I get the impression that some members want to stay until 9pm to see all of the Cruise (and the end of it) while some will have had their fill of sun, cars and people earlier. On Friday night/Sat. morning I'll let them know how many people to expect and the time. This arrangement lets everyone go to eat when they want. Last year the group was smaller, so we all stuck together. Were a bigger group now which put us in the "banquet catagory". Please let me know as best you can if you intend to stay till the end and eat after (at 9:15) or will go to eat earlier.
Dinner Friday night @ Moose Preserve corner of Woodward and Square Lake Road.
They do not take reservations for large groups later than 5:30pm. That seems way too early to me. I'm working on getting a 7:00pm agreement, no answer yet.

On Saturday for the 13/WW parking lot-Please remember - 5/6 hours:
11:30 am- Meet and park at the mile 13 lot on Woodward ave.in Royal Oak.
11:30 am - 4:30 pm: Check out the cars, further discussions, wander around looking at other cars, etc.
4:30 pm- Drive to the Restaurant/Bar where we will have reservations.
5:30 pm - ??- Dinner/Drinks, etc. and back to hotel for more visiting etc.
I just want the weekend kept in prespective wth regards to the limited parking and the fact that all of the rest of the time it's a blast, kinda like a weekend summer camp for adults and their excellent cars
Question for the whole group- IMHO dinner on Saturday is too early. Could everyone hold out, snack a little so that we could stay later, even to the end of the cruise at 9:00 pm? It would push the "tail gate" gathering at the hotel to later, but it just seems that the reason you come all this way is to attend the cruise, why leave it 3-4 hours before it's done? If we did this it makes more sense to switch the restruants so that it's Moose Preserve on Friday and Tavern on 13 Saturday night as it's 1 mile from the 13/WW lot and west of the lot which matters because of how they close Woodward down at 9:00 pm. If some members had had enough, they could bail early, go to Tavern on 13 do an informal tail gate in the lot or go in for drinks and food. The park and lock location I'm working on is the lot at Tavern on 13 as well.

You will have more fun at 13/WW with or with out your car parked in front of you than anywhere else at the Cruise.

Excellent idea on dinner Ann!
That did kind of bum me out last year......we left the cruise early to go eat, sat in a restaurant for a couple of hours, and when I left it started raining!

I'm not a big fan of eating that late, but I'll go along with the rest. It's about the get-together, not eating.
Plus I'm sure there will be a couple vendors around more than happy to fill my belly with delicious unhealthy goodies.
