Woodward Dream Cruise - August 16, 2008 - Detroit, MI
I in for eating whenever early or late i will go with the flow but I do love those 2 restaurants. Ann I will send out a check tomorrow for the parking.
Yes Yes Yes , Makes perfect sense to me.
Friday dinner at Moose Preserve and Saturday late dinner at Tavern 13
I'd say stay at mile 13 into the evening on Saturday and then go the short one mile drive to Tavern 13.
Much more time to spend on Woodward and as you mentioned folks can leave whenever they want and head to Tavern 13 and just tailgate with a little less going on around them until we all are there.
This plan has my 100% vote.
Now let's hope the restaurants can comply with our reservation needs.

4:30 pm- Drive to the Restaurant/Bar where we will have reservations.
5:30 pm - ??- Dinner/Drinks, etc. and back to hotel for more visiting etc.
I just want the weekend kept in perspective with regards to the limited parking and the fact that all of the rest of the time it's a blast, kinda like a weekend summer camp for adults and their excellent cars
------------
Question for the whole group- IMHO dinner on Saturday is too early. Could everyone hold out, snack a little so that we could stay later, even to the end of the cruise at 9:00 pm? It would push the "tail gate" gathering at the hotel to later, but it just seems that the reason you come all this way is to attend the cruise, why leave it 3-4 hours before it's done? If we did this it makes more sense to switch the restaurants so that it's Moose Preserve on Friday and Tavern on 13 Saturday night as it's 1 mile from the 13/WW lot and west of the lot which matters because of how they close Woodward down at 9:00 pm. If some members had had enough, they could bail early, go to Tavern on 13 do an informal tail gate in the lot or go in for drinks and food. The park and lock location I'm working on is the lot at Tavern on 13 as well.

You will have more fun at 13/WW with or with out your car parked in front of you than anywhere else at the Cruise.

This is going to be my 10th. Woodward Cruise, and every time I go it seems like it just keeps getting better and better.
I'm not signing up for the 13 Mile parking because that's really not what I go to the WDC for. I go to take part in the Cruise itself, to see, and be seen.
I feel I may have offended a few forum members last year when I left the Church parking lot after only being there for about an hour, and for that I'm sorry, but I really wasn't being anti-social. I just knew time was running out, and there is so much to see further North on Woodward.
For me, the best way to take in the cruise itself is to get there early. (well before noon on Saturday) Go up to at least 15 Mile Rd. then cruise on back down South on Woodward. That way, traffic hasn't got to the point of "grid lock" yet. Then soon after I start heading back up North, and parking on side streets every once in awhile to get out and walk around and take in the sights along the way. Then go back to the car and cruise a little more and then park again. Eventually winding up at the little town on the West side of Woodward at 15 Mile Rd, where they close down all the city streets for a gigantic car show. That's where Ford and Chevrolet set up their displays both in walking distance of each other. There is also a multilevel parking deck at that location.
The only problem with taking in the WDC the way that I do, is it doesn't lend itself to a large group of cars and people. But I highly recommend making it down to 15 Mile Rd to take in the Ford and Chevy exhibit, not to mention the huge car show at that location, just one block West of Woodward.
I've been a big supporter of the cruise ever since the first one that I attended 10 years ago, and I mentioned it here on the forum during the first year I became a member. I'm so glad a few forum members have gone to all the trouble to organize the event, and it's turning into such a popular GTG for the forum.
I'm not wishing my summer away, but I do look forward to the 3rd. weekend of August, that's for sure. Thanks again for all you guy's do.

I hope that members feel free to come and go, that they wander around at the Cruise. We have very few organized activities so that members can use their time how they want. If they want to hang with the club we now have an excellent location (boy I sure hope!) for them to be and still see lots of things.
If they want to take off for a while, no problem. Everyone should go to Google Maps and get an idea of the area so that if you want to have your car close enough to walk back to, in order to drive somewhere, you can . There is only one residential neighborhood, directly behind the center. The other 3 corners will not have anything close enough to use. Beaumont hospital has their South parking lot, normally open to the public, large and free. But I don't know what they do on Cruise day and I think if there were more than 3 or 4 XF parked there it would be clear we were using their lot.
I have offered to a couple of members that they can park on my quiet residental street, but it is at 11 and WW with a 5-8 minute walk to WW. We can use my van to "shuttle" up to 13 mile on Coolidge Road, fast no traffic, goes straight north to the lot. If you did this you would be there until we drove back to your car.
There is no way to say that this 30 space limit is what works best for our group. But in order to move north on WW it's "slim pickens". Next year is a whole new cruise. If we like the location I think the owner will want us to stay and we'd get more spaces
Check for parking is in the mail
. It's coming from my bank, so please don't think it's garbage mail and throw it out.
Can't wait till August, thanks to all who have put this together...since I am new, I will just offend all of you right now....I prolly will cruise some after mtg all of you, but since my friend won't be w/ us...we may cruise in his car instead....anyway can't wait, should be a blast...and my check is coming from FP's acct as well....just kidding...mine will be the rubber one...not...
FYI----> I did PM a second payment info page to correct the date. I must have issues with numbers, 18 seemed so much better than 16 ??????????????
