I will check with Rapps but I believe she will be going there early in the morning to see that our space is secured.
I sent her a PM to also respond here.

We should probably PM a couple of cell phone numbers around, just in case.

Thank you for your concern and insight. By the time you arrive I will have complete details about where our 30 spots are and who will go where so that the cars are "showing themselves off" well. I will go down early in the day to verify that everything is correct.
Previously we asked for people to PM Valk with your forum name, real name, cell #, car yr/make and color. The ability to call one another proved invaluable last year when the group was lead onto north bound Woodward. One hour and 1.5 miles later peole were calling back and forth for directions to get off of WW but still meet at for dinner. He'll send a private link to you with a spread sheet the week before with our info.
Roy, the problem with these long threads is who wants to go back and read over all of the posts? Not me!! In any event, there are differences in the two lots which I posted, as did Apkano. The 13/WW people are in the show place, next to the offical Chrysler exhibit. Most people will say "it's the center of the cruise, the place to be". The Church lot is off of the corner, as you know, without people wandering around checking out the cars. I am hopeful that next year we can have the orignial 50 spaces and everyone will be together at 13/WW. The three of us stepped aside on spots so others could experience the Dream Cruise from a great location. We all attended last year which many new members may not have.

I am curious if anyone here uses FRS radios for events like this. When we would travel with the Durango Club Group, we would use FRS radios to keep in contact with everyone. Worked out good because EVERYONE knew what was going on just by having their radio on the same channel.

Just a thought. James

Anyone who has radios should definitely bring them along; my problem is remembering to bring them..................I think I will put them in the Xfire right now.

Can we decide on a channel that we can use...............Gary (Valk) or Ann (Rapps), would you let us know what channel is the best for us in Detroit area.

sorry I hit edit instead of quote..valk

I don't have any radios and I am in Illinois so Rapp's could better answer the channel question if she uses them.

Back when I purchased my Motorola FRS radios, they cost me nearly $200 for the pair. For those that don't own one now, (you dont need a pair) you can get a decent one for less than $50 now. Dicks, Walmart, and most sporting goods stores have them.

Here are some examples:

Here is a link to what is available, option and price wise. I prefer Motorola myself.

The radio question, maybe Steve/Apkano can provide some insight when he gets back/has time. If your talking about the walkie talkies I thought members used them on the Dragon. They would help a great deal with the Canadian members where some of the phones didn't take calls from American phones. Needs Wings may know too as he is in the area as well.

To save time here reading through all the posts
these are links to key info needed to know for Woodward 2008........

Fast link to Woodward Attending list and event schedule: CLICK HERE
Fast link to Marriott Hotel Booking info etc: CLICK HERE
Fast link to members parking list (WW/13 mile) and dinner info : CLICK HERE
Fast link to members parking list (WW/9 mile - Zion Church): CLICK HERE
Fast link to Tavern 13 Dining times (7:00 or 9:15) Saturday evening CLICK HERE

Dinner Friday night
Moose Preserve corner of Woodward and Square Lake Road does not take reservations for large groups later than 5:00pm and Friday August 15 is one of their busiest nights. We are looking for an alternative.

Dinner Sat. night @ Tavern on 13 one/two miles west of 13/WW lot on 13 Mile Road.
The arrangements are being handled the same as last year. We have two choices; first is to reserve space, pre-pay for dinners/food for a specific time. Second is to give them a good idea of what we will want/need the day of the Dream Cruise. I get the impression that some members want to stay until 9pm to see all of the Cruise (as well as the end of it) while some will have had their fill of sun, cars and people earlier. On Friday night/Sat. morning I'll let them know how many people to expect and the time. This arrangement lets everyone go to eat when they want. Last year the group was smaller, so we all stuck together. Were a bigger group now which put us in the "banquet category". Please let me know as best you can if you intend to stay till the end and eat after (at 9:15) or will go to eat earlier.

Put Diane and I down for the 6-7:00p.m. sitting.............afraid they might not have any food left after 9p.m.

Put me down for early eating. After all, you can always go back to the cruise after you eat.

Excuse my ignorance since I have never attended, but should we bring chairs to sit and watch like a parade or ? I have folding camp chairs that will fit in the car with no problem.

Any other tips/items/suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Just eat fast. Starting around 9 or 10 the police really lock down woodward. They don't care if you're from out of town or not.....you're getting moved off onto side streets. By having dinner later, you get to see all the cruise, then kick back with some good friends and food while all the traffic clears out.

Chairs are a good idea....Woodward becomes a giant parking lot. A cooler full of snacks and drinks is a good idea as well. There will be plenty of vendors, and restaurants along the cruise route.

At 9:00 pm each police department closes their portion of Woodward down. You can only drive east or west on the mile roads. You can't get back onto Woodward again. The thought is dinner Saturday night is approx. 2 miles just west of the 13/WW lot (which is on the south west corner) close and on the correct side of Woodward. There are no reservations for any of us at the Tavern on 13 Restaurant, unless we wanted to prepay as a banquet. Realizing that not everyone will want to wait till then what I need is the ability to tell the restaurant staff what to expect from our group in general. Will you eat at 9:15-9:30 or earlier I need a head count to give them. Lets keep it to 7:00 or 9:15 if we can. If someone would agree to collect the names and times from the members it would help.

Still working on Friday night dinner. Trying to keep the whole group together but not pre-pay. I'm thinking we're 50+ people. The hotel doesn't handle this many sit down, they do stand up snacking buts it's banquet food. It could be casual like pizza somewhere or sit down with drinks. I'm checking yet.

We (2 of us) will take 7pm. Are there going to be 2 events or is this a vote?
