6th Annual Spring 2013 Tail of the Dragon GTG - April 5,6,7
Gary for me personally I would prefer to buy a drink in the bar and relax in the lobby, it has a much better atmosphere than the chestnut room. At the end of the day I think it's more about socializing with the group than getting drunk. Just my opinion. I did miss the atmosphere and relaxing in the lounge area, it also seemed to split up the group as we didn't all seem to be in the same place at the same time.
And I am sure there are folks that don't even drink ( a few perhaps).
We will just have to set a group rule that no booze is to be sold by anyone and that should keep the management happy.
But I will go with the majority.

Andy,
I'm leaning toward your thinking as well
I feel that the lobby is the best place for our group to spend time together in the evenings and I'm pretty sure that consuming alcohol isn't the most important part of our gatherings either.
I personally don't drink booze so it is easy for me to be compliant with the NO outside alcohol rules.
I hope everyone else understands and can still enjoy themselves as well.

Yes, we paid the lodge for our drinking but all was well and no impositions on anyone.
Yes it was cool that we basicaly took over the lodge and enjoyed the main lobby for our event. But, I always felt like we were imposing, just a little, on other guests. Most establishments would have insisted we "get a room" for our hospitaliity functions. After all, that is how it is normaly done.
I don't see this as a big deal. And as you suggested, why not give the business to our hosts?

Can you confirm that we can still have cocktails outside?
I am not opposed to paying for some drinks, as long as they are still reasonable enough to let us hang out by the cars with some of our own drinks...
Well, our newbs are posting all over facebook about how good a time they had!
And as to the drinking, it's a minor part of my time there. I enjoyed sitting in the bar with the others, but $8 for a Run and Coke limits my drinking - maybe a good thing?
I saw VW people drinking by their cars, they were not getting rowdy or loud, nothing seemed a problem. Yea, I kinda wondered about us in the Lobby, seemed like we took the place over and with all the booze - with other guests passing thru - Kinda wonder if that would also harm our reputation: "Those drinking sports car people drive the fastest, what's up with that?"
But then, I worry about everything!

I also seen the VW guys walking around parking lot with beer in hand , But was told buy Fontana Mg that if the law came through that they could be cited , was also told that nothing can be taken out side of the bar area , maybe the thing to do is rent out the bar area from 10:00 pm until they close fri and sat night , ( with or with out I still had a great time and I think most of the new guys did too ) just going to start putting back some beer money for the fall Dragon ,
Jim. You will do fine. I know it. If you need anything all you have to do is ask. Give us an update when you can.
I think we had a great gtg down the hill with the cook out, people working cars, but each to their own. I can find entertainment or make my own but will not pay those prices. They make enough as it is for that off season time of year. And that is what that area is all about. We have checked out other venues geared to bikers/car buffs. I don't mind their rules. Don't get me wrong but I have some bad dealings with them in the past over the last 5 yrs. I have always gave in and stayed there but they aren't the only hotel in the area. And they aren't the least expensive either. Whatever. Done venting. Maybe I will stay with friends in Knoxville and just come play on saturday this fall. Plenty to do in that area.
I will keep you all posted as to how things go. Thanks
Thanks to everyone for the great time last weekend! I had a blast and will definitely come to another one. I felt somewhat out of place in the Bimmer, but still had such a good time. I will have to remedy that problem by buying an SRT for the next get together.
Good luck with your surgery BigKid!

my passenger side tire fell off the pavement,
i yanked it back on and crushed the wheel.
Kind of in the middle of no where. Pat fink
and brother pull over radio the group
Pat runs to inform the group and call a tow there is no phone service. he finds a tow service. the tow service was quick thank goodness. then it was a dilemma of finding a wheel. many of us hit the internet searching for a wheel in the middle of no where. I send out a request on the crossfire forum.org on the spring Dragon thread.
not 15 min later one of the couple who was at the Dragon replied Linda (flying turtle) & Jim (big kid) that they had a wheel
but it was about 4 hours away and this man Who is having health issue offers to not only drive 2 hours to meet us but to do it in the middle of the night. so I could get off the Mt. this would not have happened if it was not for Michael H He offered to drive me down after a long day of driving to Make the midnight run. so we jump in his car and headed out. he also dropped me and the wheel at my car in the morning. Ann & Gary Delay taking off to ride back home.
Texas T thank you so much for your generous and thoughtful offers. and everyone else for the emotional support So you can see this is an amazing group of people.

I have driven my wife's SRT6 thru the dragon. Push one pedal, then mash the other. It was easier but not one bit faster.

as far as drinking in the lodge lobby We have been lucky they have allowed us to endanger there liquor license as long as they did. they offered many alternatives. I am sure you can come up with your own solutions to the ban on drinking in the lobby. its more important to me to visit catch up and meet new drivers. when I thought we where Banned I was very disappointed, I thought we would have to find somewhere else because I feel the lobby is the glue to our gathering.
We are absolutely NOT banned from gathering in the lobby.
We just can't drink our own alcohol in the lobby any more.
I have no interest in seeking any other location to host our event and our group.
Fontana Village is the place to be IMO and suits our needs very well for our meals and space etc.
Thanks for the feedback as this helps me to prepare for our upcoming fall GTG
