base or ltd?
Thinking of trading the xfire in and the dealer I went to today (Chrysler Jeep, Dodge) tells me my car is not a Ltd but a base model with all the Ltd features added to it, according to the vin. If the numbers 65L are in the number it is a base 69L is a limited. Big difference in resale value so i need to get this sorted out...
Someone is bs'ing me. I bought it as a Ltd in May of 2004. Paid the Ltd hefty price tag. Now this dealer says I need to find out if my old dealer added the features to this car to make it look like a Ltd. RIGHT! Hell you can't get any parts now for these things and I'm sure back in may '04 the parts were even more scarce.
Any thoughts?

The LTD was not introduced until '05. Basically it’s the same car. In '04 they were all the same. There were no Base line Crossfires.
In '05 they introduced the entry level to have a less expensive model available and called it the Base. The one with all the bells was renamed to the Limited. This is why your car is not a Limited.
I hope this helps.

My car is an 05' all roadsters are 05's however it was sold in May of 04'. But, like you said, I thought the base was introduced after the Ltd with a lower price tag.
I checked a few '05 convertibles on E-bay. The limited's seem to have a 65L in the VIN, the base a 55L. I didn't check any SRT's. When I checked VINs on carfax the limited's came back as being such. Run your VIN through carfax and it will tell you the model without having to pay anything.

You guys are great!! Might keep the x-fire just to stay a member of this group. As you can see, been a member for quite a while. Not too many postings from me but this is a great place for answers. The Tampa dealer tells me the champagne color roadsters are 2007's but after telling me my car is a base, what do they know?
And once again we've all been treated to yet another shining example of "misinformation" being doled out to us about our cars, from the very "source" that supplies them to us. Our 5 Star Chrysler Dealers.
Just out of curiosity, is anybody keeping track of this? The only reason I ask, is it may come in handy for some future "class action" suit we all may be privy to at some future date.

I believe they thought they could convince me to give up my car to them for their generous offer of $19,000.00 because it was, in their mind, a base model. As i was walking out the door, it was funny how the offer kept going higher. As I drove away i think the final offer was around $23,500 but i couldn't really make it out for my laughing so hard.
Jerry Ulm Dodge Chrysler Jeep for anyone keeping score, was the dealer in Tampa.

the differences in a base compared to limited are so drastic... how could a dealer even confuse this?? lack of fog lamps... leather seats... etc... etc...
man this dealer must of been real clueless.

One glance should have told him, the base coupe comes in one color (black) and is TOTALLY blacked out. The only chrome is on the grille. The door handles, the side vents, even the windshield surround (which is silver on the 2004 and the 2005 limited), is blacked out. No fog lights, no leather, no subwoofers! No dealer would have gotten all the parts to make it a limited from a base, it would have cost too much and way too much time to install. I have a black limited coupe, and probably would have blacked it out if the base model did not exist, now I don't want it to look like the cheap car. I would go back to the dealer (with the VIN info) and confront the salesman or talk with the business manager or even the owner. They need to know about when there underlings are trying to rip off the customers, especially in this day and age with the internet and boards like this. It could cost them TONS of business, and I would warn them as such.

Sorry, couldn't find a roadster pic, but this is a Base coupe.
