Default New to the Crossfire

I recently purchased a new 2006 Crossfire as my first new car, even if it is over a year old. I did a lot of research and this forum has been extremely helpful in making my decision. I will add that no matter how much discussion there is about the cup holder, there is no preparing for the reality.

I do have an initial question that I haven't seen covered previously and I know it may sound strange but, Should the car have a oil dipstick? The day after I got the car home, I decided to check the oil. Pulled what I thought was the dipstick and to my surprise I found a 'plug' in its place. Called the dealer who sold me the car and they weren't extremely helpful, talked to a local dealer who told me that depending on my VIN number I won't have an oil dipstick. Has anyone else heard of this? Any info would be helpful.

If I didn't say it before, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum. Your experiences have been paramount in helping me choose the Crossfire.

Congrats & Welcome to the Forum!!!

If I am not mistaken there should be an oil dip stick, it should be located on the left side of the car right in front of the engine cover...it has a red handle. Check your owners manual to make sure, but ALL (again...to my knowledge) cars have an oil dip stick, your dealer(s) might be a "DipStick" and just doesn't know or just doesn't want to be bothered.

My 2004 has a oil dipstick. I am sure all crossfires would have an oil dipstick.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM.

You will find yourself reading in here for hours if you make the time. I enjoyed reading the earliest posts dating back to 2003. You will see posts from original members that were on waiting lists for there Crossfires and paying upwards to $40,000 for them. Be sure to load some photos of you car into the member gallery to share with others here. Enjoy the new ride !!!

Be sure to wipe the lipstick from your "Dipstick"

Welcome to our forum.

My 2005 XFire has a dipstick, I thought all models had one.

Your dealer(s) may have been confused...we do not have a tranny dipstick that is accessible from the top of the engine.

Just a thought...you might want to check the underside of the "plug" and see if there's anywhere to attach anything...like maybe a long spiral wound rod!

I was just wondering if maybe it fell off and went down into the tube...if so you might have trouble!

All Crossfires have a dipstick.

Sometimes you'll find it holding onto the steering wheel!

Just wanted to post a photo to show I'm not a dipstick. My original thought was that it came apart and fell into the oil pan, but after looking at the part, I'm fairly confident it is a temp part probably put in when the engine was assembled.

You're definitely checking the oil dipstick tube.

You're right...that's definitely not a dipstick.

I'm still not sure what the purpose of a plug there is. I can see no reason for it during assembly. Hmmm...Detective work is in order.
