Just got my first ticket
Let me start off by saying that i haven't had any moving violations on my record in the last 5 years.
I was on my home from work when I decided to take a slight detour to drive past a friend of mines to see the trees down in his yard. I had the top down, and as I made a left turn from a four way stop, I noticed that there was no one in my lane in front of me as far as I could see, and this was a fairly wide (2 wide lanes, plus a shoulder/break-down lane on each side) highway. So I shift into second and put the pedal to the floor. I'm watching my RPM's more than anything as I shift into third, and push it near red-line. I decide that's enough and glance at my speed at nearly 80 mph. I'm coasting as I look up and see a cop in his SUV comming towards me in the opposite lane. I know there's no hope as I look in my rear-view mirror and see that he's already got his lights on, and has pulled onto his shoulder to make a U-turn. At this point I have two options... Haul *** down the next road and try to lose him on the curvy, narrow country road. Or try and bail as soon as possible, and accept my punishment, and hope for mercy. I choose the later and quickly pulled over and wait (nearly 20 seconds) for the cop to catch up and pull in behind me. I just got the vehicle less than 3 weeks ago, and registered yesterday. He asks for my license and registration, and I give it to him. He asked why I was going so fast, and I say, "Well, it's a new car that I haven't had for very long, and..." The officer cuts me off to finish my sentence, "And you were just trying it out (pushing the limits (I don't remember which he said))." To which I replied "Ya, more or less." He must have thought he was funny when he said, "Well, just so you know it'll go at least 76 mph." He said he gave me a ticket, but it looks suspisiously like the summons I got when I was 18 for reckless driving.
76 mph in a 55 zone. That's going to be one expensive ticket. Evidently the "clean" record didn't mean much to the officer (In Indiana, if you go 3 years without any moving violations, then your record is cleared, at least for a first time offense), nor did the obviously new car.

Sucks, but you did the right thing.
It never fails, the moment you decide the "road ahead is clear", pow, here comes the law driving the opposite direction. I think this has happened to just about every driver out there.

I can't read the officers signature, it looks kinda like D. S. Cl---- (scribble) with an ID # of 4810 (the zero might be a 6).
I'm supposed to appear in Elwood City Court on Aug 5th 2008 at 2pm.
And to add to what i said originally, it is in fact a summons.

That's the problem with a fast - and fun to drive fast - sports car. You did the right thing by pulling over. A lot of times yoou'll get a stern warning or even a write-up for a lowe speed by admitting the mistake (I was doing 80+ in a rental trying to get home because my flight was canceled, and the sheriff wrote me up for 75 in a 70, based on my sob story).
Get a decent radar-detector. It has saved my a$$ many many times.

I look at it as 1 ticket, think about all of the times you did not get caught. Now is the time to get a decent radar detector and stay ticket free for the next 12 months. Speaking from experience!!

I finally have the opportunity where there's no traffic in my lane. It's a wide, smooth, dry, straight road. I hit the gas and only comfotably get to 80 mph. Faster than 80 mph, and I still don't have the confidence to drive this car faster than that. I drove my last car up to 110 mph. My mothers old car to almost 120 mph. Even my dad's old van up to 100 mph. Just something about this car and once I get about 80, I feel like I'm flying and I slow down.
I suppose now that I've admitted to all these other times I should mention i did all that before I was 18, when I was hit with reckless driving. Ever since then, I've taken it real easy, and haven't driven like that. The one time I give it a shot in my new sports car, a Madison County Sherrif deputy is ready to pull me over.
I've been lucky not to get a ticket in my Crossfire... so far...
On Saturday night I was heading North on I35W near dowtown Fort Worth and this car seemed to be baiting me... So I showed him what I had... it was sweet... then quickly backed off and let him have it... He could also get the ticket.. I surely didn't want it...

Just wanted to say that I went nearly 20 years without a ticket. I then got two in the first 6 weeks of owning this car. Both were for pretty minor things. One was turning into the left turn lane too soon, the other was going 43 in a 30.
After that I got a radar detector. Most police have the radar on all the time, so it's like a cop detector. Haven't got one since.

I got a ticket for 94 in a 70. It should of been 140 in a 70. Yeah, I was flying, it was a beautifull morning around 9 o'clock on 840. If you're from tn you know how clear and open 840 is. I have no excuse, you shouldn't drive this fast, but I was. The look on the cop's face was priceless though.
I had a cop pull me over the first week I got mine and gave me the whole "it's a new car and you're testing the limits, eh?" speech, except his ended in "Nice car, be careful and slow down."
Any recommendations on a radar detector? The main road from my old age home at times becomes a speed trap. Ya never know when that motorcycle sheriff will be pointing that gun at you. Yesterday I just happened to be geezer driving when I passed his hiding spot...
Popeye, between you and me< I wouldn't waste your money...my finger, or I should say my thumb was always faster than the foot...it's those officers who leave their units off and only turn it on when they see a speeder that will get you...in the old days when I just left mine on, I was just cruising really not looking to pull anyone over...except the idiot that didn't slow down when he would see me...marked car and all...if just gives you a safe feeling, but if they want you, they will get you...
Decade, I wouldn't been able to help you buddy, don't know that many in Madison County anymore, gettin' old you know, those guys are all retired now...and I know this thread is old, so I hope it turned out alright for you....
