Default Need Some Help... Noise In Reverse.

Hello All,
Since day 1 of owning my 2008 Roadster, there is a metal crackling sound whenever I am parking and turning my wheel in reverse. This noise is only when in reverse. Anyone else experience this metal crackling noise? Any ideas as what it could be. I am very reluctant to take it in to the dealer. They are clueless and will muck up something else for sure. Thanks.

Where's the noise coming from? Front, back? Does it only happen when reversing while turning the wheel? What if you turn the wheel, go reverse, and don't add or subtract steering inputs? We need to figure out if it is a steering or suspension thing.

I see you have after market wheels. How carefully did you select the length of the new lug bolts? Maybe they are touching the e-brake springs inside the rear hub assy.

Maybe?

Thanks for the quick response. The noise comes from the front & when turning the wheel.

The noise was there before I installed the wheels. I did have to purchase a shorter lug due to the interference with the emergency braking system. Thanks for the help.

Hi, I would check the condition of the engine and transmission mounts first if the sound occurs when the vehicle is changed from one transmission position to the next. Getting the car up on a jack would be the easiest way to do this.

BC.

If it occurs when turning the wheels then I would suspect an interference problem.

hi steven,
i hear the same in my 05 roadster but i could not associate it to any other condition like turning the steering wheel or not. and it does not happen all the time. i have driven my car for around 4 months and have not noticed anything strange. just do not give it that much attention anymore.
cheers.
