Default Extended warranty

I will be needing to purchase an extended warranty soon and was wondering if I should buy it from Chrysler or consider some other vendor? Being a woman who is not mechanically inclined, I have opted for them for every vehicle over the past seven years and have always purchased from Chrysler even though my late husband didn't believe in extended warranties. I certainly feel they have been worth the money. However, I was unaware you could purchase them from other sources until my last one ran out which generated lots of junk mail promoting the purchase of yet another warranty. I am considering one that covers all electrical. Is it worth the price and what is a reasonable price for one like that for this car? Can you negotiate the price from a dealer like negotiating for the car? I didn't find that the case before but wondered if that might be the case now in this economy.

I have seen reports/articles around that fact that buying from Chrysler may be a better option. I have a non-Chrysler on mine, but it won't start until summer so I cannot say for sure if it will be better than a Chrysler contract.

Ahhh, but can you beat the prices quoted on the "Extended Warranties" thread?

I had a quote of 7/100,000 for 1480 - 185 = 1295

I just received my notice from Chrysler ; my 3 year warranty is about to expire on my 06. What are your opinions on the extended warranties. Given the latest developments around Chrysler do you think I'd be better off elsewhere? If so; where have you had good experiences?
Thanks!

Hi my name is Justin. I work at a Chrysler dealer in Beloit WI. I am offering chrysler warranties to forum members just over cost. I just need your last 8 of the vin# and mileage and I can check to see what is available. 608 364 5950 is my direct line. These warranties can be bought without paying taxes if out of state, and they are applied to your vin so you can go to any chrysler dodge or jeep dealer

I purchased my extended warranty from my credit union. It cost me $1263. It expires 01/28/2016 and was for 100,000 miles with $100 deductible and started when factory warranty ended. My in-service date was Jan 10, 2007. I have had it on other cars and they paid without question. You can take it anywhere for repair which was/is a big plus for me. It is a totally comprehensive plan very much like the Chrysler Max plan. It even includes road side assistance, substitute transportation, etc. If Chrysler goes south you are still covered. My car has a lifetime warranty on the engine from Chrysler but read the fine print on the Chrysler warranty. My drivetrain, etc. is ONLY covered up to the value of the car. So as the value goes down replacing an engine, tranny, etc. may be an issue. Under the extended warranty I do NOT have this restriction for repair.

Hope this helps. Oh! The warranty is with ASSURANT Solutions thru my credit union. Car was NOT financed. You do not need to have a loan with them to buy the car warranty from the credit union.

Shop around.

I will probably buy the chyrsler warranty next year. spoke to my brother in law who works for Chrysler. He told me the mark up on the warranty is 100%. So negotiate these things !!, they have a huge mark up and you can certainly get the price down.

Beanerneon,
What kind of costs can you offer for the extended warranties?
Any drawbacks?

I'm a bit confused by the contracts on some of these extended warranty deals- My car is fast approaching 36,000 miles and so the factory warranty will end ,so in searching an extended warranty of 60,000 miles - I interpret that to mean additional miles to what I have now? I'm looking at a 4 year / 60,000 miles extended warranty and the saleman assures me it means additional miles to my 36,000 miles and it will take me to an additional 4 years or 96,000 miles total. Any input or wisdom in this would be appreciated.

My understanding is at 60,000 on the odometer...no more warranty.

If its a chrysler warranty than no. its total miles. Like a 7/100k warranty is up to 7 years or 100k miles. after that there is lifetime or other plans that get year and unlimited miles.

This is a Zurich warranty- 4 years / 60,000 miles and it really doesn't specify to my satifaction as to wheter it is 60,000 miles additional or 60,000 miles total- I Guess I will have to call Zurich themselves on Monday to have it clarified- The Salesman says without question it means it is additional miles.........I'll get back to you with what it actually is.........thank you all.

I have a Zurich warranty, and it is additional miles.

On the back of the first page of the contract, Section A. Definitions:
Term: Used Vehicle Plans. The time and mileage limits of the term selected start on the contract date of sale and from the mileage registered on your vehicle's odometer on that date. The coverage expires when the length of time of the term is reached (12:01 a.m. local standard time) or your vehicle's odometer reading is equal to the sum of the term mileage plus the mileage on your vehicle on the contract date of sale, whichever occurs first.

thank you for the info on that contract- it was a bit confusing to me....the dealer was pushing Zurich over Chrysler because they said they get paid quicker from Zurich.
