Got the tach to about 4900 - 5100
You think it's bad over here?

I didn't pay much attention to the Tach when I first got our Roadster. It was auto and I've come around to just gas and it goes. I did get a bit worried when I noticed most of the shifts happening at the red line, but now I love it. I'm pretty sure the car is smarter then me anyways. When you jam the gas then brake hard, it'll hold the low gear at like 4,000rpm, waiting for you to mash the gas again. I haven't driven another auto that'll do that for me.
I also tested the rev limiter in my driveway. it's not the sort of limiter I expected. It just jumps up to 4,000rpm and holds there like a crosshair. sounds good, but doesn't have the bounce in it like I expected. (This is in neutral or Park). I guess I had expected it to limit at the redline.

sure glad I got a tune....no more REV LIMITER....now I don't have to worry about it. LOL.......actually, it kicks out at 6200 rpms....hits 4th gear at the end of the quarter...

Tha't not your rev limiter. If the front wheels aren't turning, you engine is held, by the computer, at 4,000 rpm. You have to remove a fuse (# 17 I think) to go higher.
Found that out on the first dyno run with my manual tranny.
If your car is stock, Rev limit is about 5750 RPMs.

What a difference a few months makes. I reset my throttle response and now am addicted to getting up to speed as fast as I can. Oh, not EVERY time... but by the time I got to the end of the entrance ramp to I75 last saturday (going to the park) I was doing 85.
Top speed so far is 109 - didn't hold it long, but did look over the part of I75 that is in Lamar county - didn't see anyone running radar and turned around and went for it.

Way to go!
I rarely take the car above 4000 rpm, though. The "kick of torque" that you get low in the rev range kind of disappears when you go above 4000rpm, so I tend to short shift to get my kicks.
I love the sound of the exhaust in the midrange though. "Rooooom, rooooom rooom". The stock exhaust sounds great, IMHO.

Same here, son.
My usual shift occurs around 4100 or so ... seems like, with the autostick, this delivers the best performance.
And yea, the stock exhaust "talks" to me just the way I like it. I"m not a fan of a lot of noise - anyone can make their car make NOISE. Mine growls!

I've had my 6spd Roadster on track a few times and have felt the rev limited kick in full force - feels like someone took my foot off the gas pedal!!
As for not wanting to see the tach go past 5,000 rpm - I've been on some VERY tight canyon runs where the only time I run the needle through the 5,000 rpm mark is when I'm slowing down!!! Canyon runs are sort of like autocross tracks with plenty of very tight turns, but instead of cones we have 1,000' drop offs!

(old post)
1. Traction control off
2. Brakes on HARD
3. put it in 1st gear ( indicated ) with the autostick
4. 1600 - 2000 RPM ( or whatever your brakes will hold )
5. Brakes off, pedal to the metal
6. hang on for dear life ....... ( it will shift when it needs to )

Drove the old Italian V-8 to work today with a 7900 rpm redline and no rev limiter although I usually try to shift around 4-5000 if people in front of me or by 7500 if warmed up and open road. On the way home a headlight went out, got home and checked--yup need light so got into Crossfire put the top down scooted out the driveway 15 minutes before autoparts closes and oops hit the 5700 rpm rev limiter. (note that driveway dumps into 55 MPH zone with limited sight distances so decide and scoot)
Crossfire is a bit too quiet.
They also have the parking brake levers on opposite sides of the seat.
