Got the tach to about 4900 - 5100
Well, never intended to do that. Took a ladyfriend out for a ride tonight.
Guy in an SUV wanted to show me that my little car is a fart in the wind... Beeped at me at a red light and motioned to race him.
He had me at first, when I realize he wanted to show me up - told the lady with me, "Watch this" - before I knew it, we'd left him behind.
WHY did I bother? Since when do I do things like this? I dont' know. Least it was in a stretch of road that begins a limited access/no driveways/no intersections section of road.
Well, I took off, tach got to around 5 in first three gears when I realized how hard I was pushing it.... made up my mind to back off and realized I was doin almost 70 in a 55 AND that he was WAY behind me - I mean WAY back.
Really don't want to push my little toy like that again... but Pearlie was laughing! She said speed didni't bother her - just didn't want me to get a ticket.

You know, I should have posted this in another forum - this has nothin to do with my car being a Roadster. Mods do your thing if you see fit and move this.

BTW, 5,000 RPM is milk toast on these engines.
roadster with a stick
The way it should be!
But mine is a 5 speed auto!!!
But truth is, I am more upset that I pushed it to 5,000 than I "turned into a guy"
This car is my reward for working all week, don't intend to drive it into the ground - so your "milk toast" comment helps. So, Deb Walker is right? This engine shrugged off being so close to the redline? (She's ALWAYS lecturing me about this...)

... and yes, you are right, this touching experience hardly merits a new thread.

After the way 'she' moves (as I am finding out) maybe "Little Debbie" isn't quite the right name.
HEY....
Come to think of it, Franc already explained about the rev-limiting in the XF... I forgot about that.

Not with the auto stick. It just won't let you do it. The engineers programed a huge safety factor. Like say 80% of safety margins.
I red line mine, with a stick, at 6800. No issues at 18K.
Enjoy the car. It was built to be driven.
SO DRIVE IT LIKE YO STOLE IT. "CAUSE YOU DID!

Only 4900-5100? Don't you ever accelerate hard when go on the on-ramp on the highway to get up to speed? Are you saying you've never hit redline in your car? If not, then you are a very rare breed indeed.
Pizzaguy,
you're a southerner, you drive a red roadster. 'Nuf said.
Just mash it from a standing stop and ogle the tach/speedo combination. Mine seems to shift from 2nd to 3rd at about 60.
Twisted sister!
And I used to date a girl named Debbie.
She was plenty fast. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Must be a common trait in Deb's, or something similar...

hitting 5K???
I think most of us do that on the way out of the neighborhood
The little things are bomb proof, don't beat it up, but for god sakes, have some fun in it

itsky,
I am slowly learning. Thing is, haven't had a tach on anything in years - probably push other engines more than I THINK I do anyway. And those engines aren't THIS engine, are they? (Ford van and pickup).
The car sat tonight, rain squalls were moving thru and I have spent enough time cleaning the car this week! But this weekend will be another 250 mile trip! And yea, the permagrin is evident here, too.

pizzaguy, too bad you don't have a stick so you can hit that darn rev-limiter a time or two. That will get your attention real quick (ask me how I know!).
I imagine you would have to work really hard at to do that with the auto stick.
You know I always said:
1) I'll never make payment on something with an auto.
2) I'll never buy a car.
As I drove around Savannah on June 21, driving two Coupes and one Roadster (one Coupe was a 6 speed)... I was amazed at how fun these cars are. And when I drove the Roadster (last car I drove that day) I KNEW I had to have one. A Roadster. Period. (I brought this one home July 6).
Well, I told the lady who owned the Roadster (Shawn) that I was about to violate rule 2 above - and that I was actually thinking I might violate rule 1 as well! It's all because of the Crossfire - this is not a 'car' in the usual sense. Not at all. This is a different world altogether.
I don't drive cars - cars are boring and are for weenies, family men, and other such animals that dont' understand that front wheel drive is stupid, and cars are boring. (It wasn't this way in the 50's or 60's or even 70's). But again, the XF is not a "car".
"Little Debbie" was advertised as a stick. I was SO disappointed at first (and that look on my face took $1,000 off the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) But I remembered what I told Shawn - that I was not sure I wanted a stick. And, I was standing next to a car that had spent four years in a garage - driven only 13,351 miles, and was so clean, even under the hood, that it actually passed for a new car three days after I bought it! Better yet, I was going to buy it for less than 1/2 of the $41,608 sticker price. (Original owner was said to have paid $36,000 even in 2005).
Oh, then there was the CarFacts report... everything about this car told me to buy it. I STILL cannot believe that I own a car with an auto and love every minute of driving it, cleaning it, vacuming it, fussing over it and TALKING about it. And it is not just me - even the guy at the Interior shop said "Ya gotta bring it up here when you pick up your 303 - we see so few of them". When I get gas, WITH NO EXCEPTIONS, I am approached (80-90% of the time by women) and end up being asked all about the car.
When I go to Waffle House, I cant get away from people who just have to ask, "What is THAT?" I get waves, thumbs up, smiles, etc. at traffic lights.
No one cares that it's an automatic.
I thought I was gonna be REAL MAD at myself for buying an auto. I am not. But again, the XF is not like any other car, or any other toy, or any other interest.
The XF came from nowhere six weeks ago - have never even heard of them before that! Now, they are all I can think about. It's been six weeks and "it" isn't wearing off!
I love this car, and this forum is a godsend to me.
