Quick touch convertible top switch
I'm very interested in this but am slightly intimidated by the instructions. I have a huge fear of breaking some tab that holds my center console together. How hard is it really? I can solder so that isn't a problem, I am just worried about breaking something.
BTW - for everyone who said the caught in the top question was crazy ... I have gotten my hair caught in the door of the XF 3 times and the same amount of times in the window of my Honda (last time was friday night). My hair is really long - you guys aren't used to having to deal with that. All 3x I have gotten stuck in the XF it was a breezy day & I was getting in the car, wind caught my hair as I closed the door - voila! ... pinned to my car! Same basic idea on rolling up a window while driving in my Honda. I used to get stuck sometimes in the sunroof on my Volvo. My roommate also gets stuck in her car window sometimes. It's funny as hell & not a real danger, but it does happen! So go ahead & have a giggle on me ... where's my warning sticker? Do I get to sue Mother Nature for the wind, Aveda for making my hair so free or Chrysler, Honda & Volvo for my traumatic experience??

Second, I found the chore of taking out the console for the cupholder replacement to be easy. (Once I figured out why there was an AIR LINE running into the console from behind!)
If you can solder, I mean, if you have THAT much technical aptitude, I would not worry about it, Kim.

As for taking apart the console, on a scale of 1-10, it's a 3. You shouldn't have to worry about breaking any little tabs so long as you're careful and not wrenching on it. You won't have to worry about the little air hose deal for the center compartment as you're not actually removing the console, just lifting it up far enough to get at the wires.
If you come to the dragon, I'll put it in for you for $30 and you won't have to worry about anything.
BTW, is it wrong that I'm turned on by a chick that knows her way around a soldering iron?

EDIT: But seriously, what is WRONG is when guys are threatened by a girl who CAN do stuff for herself.

I'll keep you in the loop though.

If you line up enough people, I could possible do a run for the R170 body SLKs that would operate just like the Crossfire Quick Touch Top but I'd need at least 20 people or the price will be prohibitively high. Believe it or not, the convertible top module and most of how it works is different than the Crossfire. This is one one area of the Crossfire that is actually closer electronics-wise to the R171, not the R170 SLKs. Sad, but true.

Well everyone, the Quick Touch Top is finally available for sale. Click here for more info.

I was not convinced that I wanted or needed something that will take ANOTHER $80 out of my car account.
Then I watched the video - pictures (MOVING pictures for sure) say more than typed words. I'll be ordering one AFTER the Dragon (I'll spend the money in a month I have NOT spent $200 or more on a GTG.)

Outstanding Job Rudy. I was part of the beta group, and can tell you it works like you see it in the video all the time. Awesome.......

It does not change the speed threshold you must be under to safely operate the top. I'd love to be able to raise this to ~20mph but I wanted to keep this affordable, easy to install and stay away from messing with the BCM.
