Default Crossfire Possibly A Rebuilt Wreck?

I bought my Roadster as "new" in August 2009 with 51 miles. The dealership provided all the appropriate paperwork detailing this. Of course, the last model year was 2008 so it sat on the lot for about a year.

After a few months I discovered there was a leak in the windshield wiper fluid pan/hosing. I was shocked that any dealer would sell a car without first checking this. Because the dealer is in Ohio and I live in Virginia, I took it to another dealer closer by.

The Virginia dealer tells me that I have to pay for the repair since Chrysler will not reimburse them. I tell them to shove it, that I'm not going to chase down Chrysler to reimburse me. They say that the pan/hosing is from a hardtop, and that the original dealer performed an unauthorized repair that Chrysler will not cover. Aren't the parts for the Roadster and Coupe exactly identical? I think the Virginia dealer just made that up to get money out of me. As I'm walking out the door, the Virginia dealer tells me that other parts in the car do not match, and that it probably was wrecked and rebuilt from junkyard parts. I find this hard to believe, I think the Virginia dealer was just pissed I didn't pay and wanted to get back at me.

So...is this even possible? Could I have bought a car which was wrecked/flooded etc and sold as "new". If so, is there any way I could check or verify this by looking up the VIN etc.? I did all of the Carfax stuff before buying.

Thanks for your help.

The pan & hosing should be the same in coupes & roadsters. I would go back and ask them to point out the specific "other parts in the car do not match". Then come back here and post what they said.

Where in Virginia are you located and what dealer did you take it to? If you are located in or near the central VA or the Tide Water area there are a few reputable dealers that I can recommend.

I'm in SW VA, the New River Valley, the closest dealer is Shelor...they have a bad rep for a reason...but I don't have a choice, the other Chrysler dealer is an hour away. I even got an oil change there so it wasn't like they weren't making any money off of me

All of this happened 2 months ago.

I'm going to report the dealership to Chrysler, not sure what good if any that'll do.

Agreed.... just call the 800 hotline. They don't like getting calls like this and are very afraid of their image. Just report them to corporate. That is the only way you can get a dealership back today.

You haven't mentioned if your car is a Limited Roadster, or if its one of the Red Special Edition, or a Black Base Roadster.

If the header panel is Black, then your dealer is probably just stupid, and doesn't know all the models of the Crossfire, and you should point this out to the idiots.

BC.

Nobody has addressed this problem from what I see.
The 'wiper fluid pan/hosing' description is rather vague, do you mean that the wiper fluid tank leaks all the time or only when you add fluid to it?
These tanks overflow onto the ground when you attempt to put more than 4 liters into them. So if it overflows as you fill it probably has 4 liters in it already. You cannot see any fluid when the tank is full.
You say that you found the problem after a few months, how do you know the problem:
a, is not new.
b, is because that did not check all systems before sale and would have found it if they did.
or
c, is it possible that no problem really exists after you read my possible explanation.

The dealer is certainly due a serious complaint to Chrysler HQ.

Thanks for the suggestions...

To answer some of the questions.

It's a Limited Roadster.

Someone mentioned the overflow, the story gets worse. Apparently they checked NOTHING back in the shop, after an hour they came back and told me nothing was wrong, that I was just putting too much in. I knew this wasn't the case because I have WATCHED the fluid drain onto pavement as I poured it in. Plus, I have a parts list from the original dealer. So...I had them poor in some water...it all came out on the pavement in front of the service manager and they looked like complete dorks.

The car was bought from Columbiana Chrysler in Columbiana, OH. They guy I bought it from was a total ***. Didn't even tell me how to put the stick in reverse before I pulled out. Refused to honor the free tires and rotation they give to all other sales because, "I got such a good deal".

The problem isn't new because I have NEVER been able to get the wiper fluid to work, even after I filled it 5 minutes from the dealer at a gas station.

Normally it takes a lot to get me pissed...but I've got a ton of issues to report to that 800 number...didn't think it would be that easy with the Chrysler bankrupcy and all.

I suspect that your Virginia dealer knows nothing about the Crossfire and is without a Certified Crossfire tech. They are making things up to cover their stupidity but are exposing it instead. You are under a 3year/36000 mile warranty from the original date of sale, ask the dealer to verify the date of sale (the selling dealer may have reported it earlier than your purchase date) and than Call the Chrysler hotline and ask for a representative to meed you at the dealership to review your warranty claim. They should fix your problem leak.

Perhaps the washer fluid tank is full. All Crossfires overflow to the ground by the PS front wheel when the windshield washer tank is full.

Have you checked the pump and/or the fuse?

This is what it looks like behind the fender.

If the black fill hose is loose then it would be a simple fix. Remove the fender liner and see if the problem is obvious. Do it yourself or get it fixed, I think we are fresh out of ideas.
