Oil Light
Oil Light
Hey Everyone
So I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this. I got my oil changed at a jiffy lube, and it was good for about 2k miles when I drove to los angeles and back to NM. When I got back, I drove it and the light came on for about 10 miles and then turns off. I took it to jiffy lube and it read right on the stick, I read it electronically and it read OK. Any ideas? Should I just make Jiffy do the oil over again??? Dont wanna blow my motor.

Re: Oil Light
I did not think that Jiffy Lube carried Mann filters or Mobile1 0W40 for a CrossFire. I would want to confirm what brand (Pennzoil/Quaker State) and weight of oil that they put in there. Also, I would ask if they changed the filter, and what filter (Purolator) they used. I am surprised that they would even know how much oil to put in it.

Re: Oil Light
Oil lights are to indicate a low oil pressure situation. You need to change the cheap filter with another to confirm filter and O RINGS are correct. You should do this yourself, easy and Jiffy has blown up cars in va due to the kids that could not make it at mc Donalds !!!! Woody I know this as one of my customers owns a franchise of Jiffy.

Re: Oil Light
I would personally not drive the car again until I resolved the oil/filter issue. If you have the oil light on for 15 minutes, it is telling you that you are low on oil. After the engine heats up (15 minutes), the oil may reach the minimum fill mark allowing the light to go off. Not sure that I want to think about what is happening to your engine during those first 15 minutes.
Think about it.... If you check your oil level when the engine is hot, it will read differently than when the engine is cold. Same as with Transmission fluid levels, radiator coolant levels, and even tire air pressure.

Re: Oil Light
jiffy lube destroyed a motor in a van I had....my wife's van, not mine....she thought she was helping me out by getting the oil changed. I didn't even know about it until it was too late....didn't put enough oil in...they use bulk loaders, and if not set correctly or they walk off and don't make sure it all went in, you are screwed....didn't take care of my motor, and it was a 1200 dollar mistake....that was what a Jasper exchange motor cost back in '95...I was lucky, my mechanic did the exchange with my help for 200 bucks...never let idiots change your oil...they hire anyone that can breath work there...I would take my chances at a dealer, goodyear store, or local shop first...

There are more oils that meet the specs that are 5W-40 than there are that are 0W-40.

If it was the Pennzoil European oil, that's a damn good 5W-40.
Most of the testing for it on other forums is showing it's better than the Mobil 1.

Re: Oil Light
So i went BACK to jiffy and they said everything was fine. I went to the dealer and they want to charge me 97 bucks to diagnose the issue and then another 157 for labor and whatever the part costs are, which he quoted 179 for an oil pressure sensor. ANYONE have an idea on what this might be? hard to change oil pump or oil pressure sensor on your own?
Re: Oil Light
I've done all my own oil changes on my cars since 1992 when Jiffy Lube failed to refill the oil when doing my car. In addition, when I had Penske doing a transmission drain and fill on my chrysler minivan I was lucky to catch and stop them just before they poured in the wrong transmission fluid, so I've been doing the trans fluid changes as well. I undersand that is a bigger job not everyone is in a position to do. It's well worth learning to do the oil change on our Crossfires.
With Jiffy Lube I would be concerned they installed the filter or o rings incorrectly or used the wrong oil.

Re: Oil Light
I don't think there is a whole heck of a lot of difference between Mobil1 0W- vs 5W-40, unless you live where it gets REAL COLD. I tend to use a mix of 0W-30 (which I can buy in 5 qt containers) and the rest 0W-40. Since I don't drive either Crossfire in the winter, I don't have to worry about real thick oil. On the other hand, I drive my A6 2.7T (bi-turbo) extensively in the winter and always use 0W-40. It's worked for 178k so far. The only real difference between most of the synthetics is their marketing campaigns. They are all going to work the same in your engine.
