Question Rear Spoiler Malfunction

Hi,
I have a problem with the rear spoiler on my 2005 roadster.
Sometimes it will not reset (go down) when i reduce speed, at the same time the red light on the internal button for the spoiler starts flashing?
I can get around the problem by turning the engine off, then turning it back on, manualy lowering the spoiler (via the button) until i hear a "beep" noise and then the spoiler stays down.
At least it does until i go over the speed limit again!
Is this a common fault or am I special?
any ideas what component is faulty and how to rectify the fault?

Look in your owners manual for a BAS/ESP reset. Sorry I no longer have my car or I'd give you the page number. This involves simply turning your front wheels lock to lock, but follow the instructions. My spoiler did the same thing and that reset whatever was wrong.

If the original battery is still in there, replace it.

I had some of the same problems when I bought my 05 used. It cost them 600 to replace parts and fix.

You poor guy!!! You had to give your crossfire up and settle for a lesser car. Life must really suck for you!

$600 to fix the spoiler?

Sounds to me like the typical "let's change parts until we fix it" type of troubleshooting that is so common these days. No REAL knowledge, just guesses.

This is why I fix stuff on my cars myself. But then, I fix electronic equipment for a living.

If your battery is over 4 years old, maybe over 3 - you might try replacing it. If it's over 4, replace it anyway -you are on borrowed time.

I had the same problem last month--after I shattered my front left caliper (which turned the rotor to sea glass). Destroyed the ABS sensor, which made the car's computer assume I was having a braking emergency--spoiler wouldn't come down, spoiler warning light kept flashing like yours, and of course cruise control went out too (not that I needed cruise control as I limped home at 35mph with no front brakes). Clearly you haven't had a catastrophic hardware failure as I did so yes, per other poster, I'd go for the ABS sensor first. Part was ~$120. Good luck.

let someone run the code first before you go buying parts.

You know I am just teasing you. I am actually very happy for your new addition. Great to see someone's dream come true.

You should be posting pictures of your new baby everyday. You should be bragging!!!!

I know your kidding. I don't want to wear out my welcome here. You guys and this forum and CICCI have been a big part of my life for the past 5 and a half years so its become more than just the car. I don't want to get off on a tangent, lets help this guy get his spoiler fixed.

140,627 mile mark:

I was sitting in traffic today and I heard the spoiler motor running. It was confusing because I was maybe doing.....3mph? So I looked down and the button light was indeed flashing. I've had no damage or failures elsewhere on the car to trigger this. Also, the battery is less than a year old, and when this occurred, I immediately queried the OBDII for any fault codes...nothing. The car is also reporting 12.4-12.6v from the battery while operating. I did happen to look down at my phone when I turned the car off and saw the voltage to be 11.6v however, after I turned off the car. I'm not sure if that is completely accurate, so I will be checking that with a meter tonight. I will keep you guys posted on how this develops and what I do to fix it. Will also be searching the forum some more.

Edit: After all this, I took the car up to high speed to see if the alarm was triggered like so many others have reported...but not a sound from that.

I found this while looking through the forum. It might be a helpful explination for those who have had this happen and it "cured" itself. I won't know until this evening when it's time to drive home.

The spoiler will remain deployed and the warning light in the spoiler switch will blink until the vehicle is restarted. IF the spoiler continues to deploy in this fashion below the normal deployment speed, see you authorized dealer.

With all the systems now tied together, I am increasingly concerned with a problem I experienced with my old 99 Olds Intrigue (off and on). A few times when I drove up to my bank drive through window, the accellerator not touched, the engine revved to @ 1500 rpm. Now, I do not profess to know exactly what was causing this to happen, and it did not happen anywhere else when I was driving it, but when it did happen it was unnerving. So, with all the EMI floating around the world, I seriousely wonder if the cars of today are adequately shielded from EMI, and if that could be a source of a lot of out 'gremlins'... Just a thought!

The alarm reportedly sounds if the spoiler is "not" deployed.. just like me your ready for high speed at all times now..
