Question oil change

My crossfire is due for a schedule a service. Dealers want anywhere from $130.00 to $160.00 for a glorified oil change. I live in central San Diego. Any suggestions?

Very E-Z to do. The oil and filter are expensive, though. I do it myself and it still costs about $90 to $95. The filter sure is different from other cars. It has four O-rings!

Do a search for "oil change" on this forum. It's all explained with pictures.

I can understand if the car is new to you, it might be nice to have a garage do it the first time.

Mine run about $60.. catch the oil on sale... usually under 6 bucks a quart.. and throw in an OEM filter from ebay.

I think O'rielly has oil on sale this month in fact... Napa was last month when I changed mine.

Do you mean you won't do it yourself? I do mine, buy the oil and filter on sale and it's about $60. I bought an oil evacuator so I just pump it out through the dip stick. The filter is easy because it's right on top of the engine. You may be able to get it done for under a hundred occassionally at a shop but I'd want to make sure the oil was proper and it was a fleece filter (or a good paper one).

If you don't want to change the oil yourself, try taking the car to your local mechanic. Probably cost less than a dealer.

Dealer quotes $160 for oil change. Went to a local Mobil-Express and it was $110 after taxes and the recommended oil was used. The nice thing is there was no cleanup or disposal oil to get rid of. Yes, I could DIY it but time was short.

sddan- Where did you have it done? I usually drive up to Carlsbad to Bob Baler, they've always had the best price for a dealership

I'd guess he had it done at Plutos Recycled Oil and Filter Outlet.

Yeah DIY works great for me. Got the topsider for my first one in 2010, and each time I use it the cost per change goes down (paid 36 for the topsider done 3 changes already). I use advance auto sale price of mobil1 5qt/free mobil1 filter for $29.95, I bought 10 sets of this sale for more than 6 oil changes with filters. The next oil change will cut the topsider cost to @ 9 dollers per change and so on and so forth. If you got mobil1 0W40 and a good filter for $55, you did good. Mine with a DIY without the topsider cost factored was under 49 bucks. Knowing the costs for the oils and filters will only go up, I am good for another 5 years changes (I don't drive it enough to warrant more than once a year oil changes).

If what you say is true...my sale at auto zone was not good Bought the oil at 8.99 but got the filter for free. saved $18. That means I got my oil for 6.49 each and the filter for 18. How did you get your change for $55 or $60??? Are you putting in the filter later?

Is the price of Oil like Gas and is different is location of USA?

KJ
