Default Oil Level Sensor/Hood Strut

Oil level sensor is bad, dealer wants $523.00 to replace and it is NOT covered under my service contract. This is such a ripoff . Fortunately I can drive the car without replacing as long as I check the oil level between iol changes.
Also, hood strut is bad and they want $295.00 to replace that, another ripoff! Think I will just stick with a big broom stick! Any ideas or suggestions on either of these?
Many thanks!

These are fairly easy to replace, or just take it to your trusted auto technician with the parts. I'm sure he'll charge you a fraction of what the dealer wants. In the meantime you can use the upright position of the hood strut to hold the hood open.

Replacement hood support . . . Same guy recommended by ALA_XFIRE but it is less expensive to buy from his E-Bay listing. I have bought MANY lift pistons from Mr Lou . . . Good guy and good products!

Chrysler Crossfire 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 Hood Lift Support Qty 1 Supports | eBay

This is a ten minute install job . . .

We learn two lessons in one post:

1) Extended warranty's and service contracts on cars are usually worthless.
2) Taking a Crossfire to a Chrysler dealer is almost never a good idea.

Now, if we could only spread the word before the damage is done...

I meant to say thanks to all for your suggestions and inputs. The service contract has covered a few things but I would not buy it again if I had it to do over. Lesson learned!!!

Wait until you need a oil change to replace oil sensor, I furnished the oil, sending unit, oil filter, MB pan sealant, and had them do the sticky ignition mod cost 330$ labor

Question Re: Oil Level Sensor/Hood Strut

I've seen hoods that lift higher than the "stock" position...I assume this is achieved by a longer strut...correct?...if so where to purchase?

Carl, put the hood up, press the (upper) button on the shock and push the hood up to vertical.

Press the other (lower) button on the shock to lower it.

Always remember this:

Stealerships are not in the business of REPAIR. They are in the business of REPLACEMENT. They don't repair anything! They'll always suggest that everything needs "replacing" before the can "fix" anything. Which is why they're not called mechanics - they're called technicians.

Never go to the stealership. Come here first! Our guys are more capable and experienced than any "stealership" in the world. BAR NONE!

The oil sensor is not critical and the broomstick works. If you really think positive like Harry Potter then you can ride the broomstick home in the event of a car breakdown or puncture.

Had the oil level sensor replaced by the dealer on my car. Went out the next morning and there was about two quarts on the ground underneath the car. Tech had cracked the pan when he replaced it. So I got a new oil pan as well. The whole thing was covered under my extended warranty.

NZ looks like a lovely place, I should have gone there in the sixties, Canada is nice but cold at times and I mean cold brrrrrrr.
The hood strut can be found here for $40 or so. Over there I can only guess. Put Hood Strut in search and you come up with rhe number pretty quick. Do not buy it from a Chrysler dealer, try a Mercedes dealer if they will talk to you. Use the makers part number if you can to save money.

FYI: bought one from Parts Geek, last year. OEM, good price, as I recall. (hood/bonnet strut, Note: $20 +/- ones are probably for the trunk/boot. I'm trying to be bilingual; LOL!
Check out BMA auto parts; they have hood struts & a lot of other cool parts. Amazon uses this supplier.
