Default Neglected Crossfire wont start.

Hello everybody,

I live in Qatar and I own a 2005 Crossfire Roadster. Even though it's a 2005 Crossfire, My dad purchased the car brandnew from the Chrysler dealership in 2007 as it was the last car in their stock which they couldn't sell. It is one of the five Crossfires ever sold in Qatar. And it is the only convertible with a manual transmission in the entire country.

For all the years my dad had the car, he never really drove it much as driving a manual in heavy traffic sucked the joy out of owning a roadster. So far, since 2007, the car has only done less than 16,000 miles. That should give you an idea of how less my father used to drive it. The car would go for months without being driven or even started. And as a result of all the neglect, the car has developed a lot of issues. Now that my father has retired and left the country, the car belongs to me. But I'm not able to drive it. I have been trying to fix this car for several years now but since this car is so rare in Qatar, most mechanics don't have a clue how to fix it, the spare parts are never available and Chrysler wants to charge me 3000 dollars just for labour.

So far these are the issues my car has:
1. The engine wont start. My mechanic thinks its a blown ECU since he already replaced the fuel pump and spark plugs.
2. The hydraulics for the convertible roof doesn't work any more. I have to drop the top by hand.
3. The rear window keeps falling off the convertible top because the super hot Qatari climate melts the glue that holds the glass.
4. For years the car has had a mould problem. I don't know where it's coming from. Every time I get in the car, I smell like mould. And every time I took it to Chrysler to fix it, they just spray deodorant and give it back to me. They say that I have to replace the AC's evaporator and they want to charge me 2000 dollars for it excluding labour.

I'm hoping to fix and restore this car and make it as good as new so that I can eventually sell it to someone who would actually use the car they way it's supposed to be used. The only thing I am able to do now is buy the necessary parts to repair the car from Autozone or O'Reilly every time I fly to California, which is like once a year. It costs a lot cheaper in the US compared to getting it from Chrysler in Qatar.

Can anyone give me some advice? Has anyone had similar issues?

Thanks,

Saheer

I assume by won't start, it cranks but will not fire? There are instructions on this forum for re-gluing the rear window stronger than the original. Other than that you can have a pocket sewed onto the top to contain the rear window. Use the search feature on this site to read about others repairs.

Hey, thanks for replying. And no, it doesn't even crank. Its just dead. Installed a new battery, new fuel pump, brand new spark plugs but still nothing. Which is why my mechanic says its must be the ECU.
and thanks again for the advice. I'll definitely look into the website for more answers. I'm really new to this.

These are the classic symptoms of the RCM ( Relay Control Module ) needing resoldering.
Search for "Mystery No Start"

A brand new RCM is just around $120 and it takes about 2 minutes to replace. I just replaced mine a couple of months ago for the same symptoms you are describing.

First thing to do is to scan the system with a Mercedes scanner as an SLK320 and see what is lurking.
If you need a RCM the replacement is a Standard Motor Products RY-1562 Relay .
