Default Need hydraulic pump for my 2006?

My mechanic says my pump gets a signal to work but doesn't work. He said I need a new pump. No longer available. Anyone have an idea as to where I might look or any knowledge of a possible different reason pump doesn't work? Thanks in advance. Chet

If you are talking about the conv. top pump, they are available , used, on Ebay. Rarely do these go bad. What are the symptoms? Is your mechanic familiar with Crossfires?

So he has the STAR tool to see the communications? He has verified the top open and divider switches are closed?
He has verified the "Trunk Closed" indication is there and the lock signal from the electric trunk lock is there?

He has verified that the BCM has indicated a speed of less than 9mph to the TCM via the "good to go" message?
THESE are the "signals to work", these and the closed indication from the switch are what it takes to make the TCM command the pump to start.

And does he mean the PUMP is bad or the Top Control Module (TCM) is bad?

I doubt this. I really do. But if he HAS done all the above, we need his name and phone number, cause we will have a LOT of people local to you who should be taking their cars to this guy.
I'm not being sarcastic, if he's that good, we are gonna keep him BUSY.

The guy works for the local Mercedes dealer and is used by other dealers to solve problems on foreign cars. This is my first dealings with him but was highly recommended by a buddy with a Z4. He said he checked all switches and a signal is going to pump but pump isn't working.

To pizza guy,
I don't know if he has the tool you mention but he spent 3 hours trouble shooting and says all switche's are working. I am talking to him later today again as he does this work after hours of his job at mercedes Benz.

I'm not convinced but all you can do now is find a used (or even new) part.

Klaus may have a reconditioned one he could sell:
https://www.tophydraulics.com/

(Post 3 mentions this company, but the way he typed that, it may not have been clear to someone not familiar with Klaus and company.)

I have been in contact with Klaus. Talking to mechanic after 5 tonight again. Klaus does have a rebuilt top pump available. Thanks for info.

There are two relays on the pump (yellow if they are the OEM original relays). I would certainly replace those before looking at the actual pump to be your problem. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I already ordered one from Klaus and should have the pump monday. My mechanic convinced me it was the pump so I hope he is right.

I just hope he does not put it in and find out the new one won't work either - due to controller problems.

Please let us know what happens. You have the curiosity of many of us....

I hope it does the job also. He is certain it is the problem as he says he jumped directly and it should have activated but didn't.
Will let you know what happens.

Pizza Guy.
My mechanic has been on vacation and I took my car to him Friday the 30th. He called my Saturday and the the top works perfectly. Sorry it took so long to answer but he was gone and had to get back on his schedule. He says he has all equipment to work on Crossfires and would never charge anyone he couldn't fix. Very satisfied.
Thanks, Chet , Newbie 2

So it WAS a bad pump! Well, they do a lot of work, I guess they are allowed to fail.

But damn, I drove my Graphite as a daily for four years. Put the top up and down NO LESS than 400 times and probably over 600 times. Never had a problem with it.
