Default Roof not working

Hi all, please help if possible.

Just bought a 2005 Roadster, but the roof does not operate.

The switch in the centre console flashes red. I can open and close manually ok, but when I do, I noticed that the 1 of the 2 pieces of the hood cover does not operate as it should (See picture)

The passenger side flap does not move when the roof is manually put up and down, the Drivers side flap moves up and down in synch with the roof.

Could this be my problem, a sensor perhaps?

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your purchase. Hopefully you saved a lot on the car price because of the top not working.

In my opinion, the forum resident subject matter expert on convertible top problems is Pizzaguy.

Here is a link to a very helpful post he made on the topic: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...p-sensors.html

If you search the forum for convertible top not working you will find many other threads on troubleshooting the problem. I suggest you take a look at the threads which will likely enable you to sort it out quickly. If not, it will help you narrow down the problem for forum members to better assist you.

I just noticed in you post pictures you have another Crossfire. You may be starting to get OCD Obsessed Crossfire Disorder. I'm very familiar with this condition.

Too late!

I'm down to just a Coupe & Roadster now, had 4 Crossfires at one point. One is just never enough.

There is not any sensor on the flap cable, they simply operate as part of the mechanism. A flashing red LED in the switch usually means:
1) The cycle did not complete the last time you moved the top (manually or otherwise).
2) The Top Module sees an obvious problem and is preventing movement.

If you are experiencing any issues with a BAS light, a trunk lid that does not close properly, windows that do not go down when you turn the "D" handle, a spoiler that does not go up or down automatically or power windows that do not respond to the console switches, it can be that such issues are being interpreted by the top module as problems - stopping the top from moving even tho the issue isn't technically with the top.

Thanks Pizzaguy

My Bas/ESP light is on also, was going to get around to sorting that too. Didn’t know the 2 issues could be connected.

When I turn ‘D’ handle, both windows drop down.

Why would the passenger side flap not move up and down (as the Drivers side does) when I manually put roof up and down?

Broken or loose cable.

Cable seems intact, how do I go about tightening it?

They can be, they may not be but they can be.

When I turn ‘D’ handle, both windows drop down.
So we now know:
The Retainer latch switch in the windshield frame is OK.
The Top module and body module are communicating OK.

This is a physical problem with the cable at one end or the other.

It is not intact if the flap is not moving as it should, it is disconnected/broken at one end or the other. Comparing it's physical configuration with the one that is working should lead you down the right path, but this won't make the top system suddenly start working - that is a different issue.

Ok, many thanks for the clear direction.

I will check the cable in the light tomorrow and report back
