I happen to be topless right now.
On the inside take off the three bolts on the cover plates and remove. Pictures are in reverse order
You will see the adjustable linkage in there and will give you access to see how the hooks are engaging or not.

linkage across the top

close up of adjustment

remove 3 screws along front edge to access with top on

on another note, how do I resize pictures

This is timely as my 04 just started doing something similar. With top down, and pressing the button to start the cycle, everything works until just after the back bow latches down tightly. I never get the final beep letting me know it's finished, and pulling the D-handle down will not let the top latch. It appears to be just ever so slightly too far forward. If I reach out and push back on the front of the top, the d-handle latch mechanism will engage and be in a fully locked position, but that starts the never ending beeping indicating the cycle hasn't finished completely.

Adjustments will fix this???

Thanks all

My guess would be no to the beeping.
Beeping indicates that the system doesn't think the cycle is complete. I would start with either the top latch sensor or rear bow latch switches.
Pizzaguy made a great post on troubleshooting tops up in the sticky seciton.

I'm about burned out. That post and thread are an attempt to take some of the load off.

Take Heart Pizzaguy, that post is excellent, I'll work through it, Your help is invaluable and appreciated.

I wish I had practiced better web etiquette before posting, search search search and search again, look for sticky section, and look again.

I did notice that if I try to get the cycle to complete (again, no final beep sounds after everything stops), that I get pump noise that sounds like it is coming from the rear bow latch area, so checking those sensors is a good tip.

Manually working the top up / down everything works, so it's not a lost cause.

Thanks to everyone in this community for reading the posts and offering help.

DadsXF.

You might also be sure your fluid is not low stopping the cycle.
